ATLANTA -- A former Atlanta police officer will spend five years in prison for drawing his gun and threatening a man over a cell phone.

Killroy F. Jackson, 35, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and terroristic threat charges related to the January 2010 attack. Prosecutors say Deandre Stafford and his girlfriend, T Miya Hayward, were arguing about a cell phone outside a Jonesboro Road home. Hayward claimed Stafford took the phone from her and refused to return it.

Hayward then left the scene and called Jackson, who returned to the location of the argument, according to police. Jackson, who was off duty at the time, then slammed Stafford against the wall, put a gun to his head and threatened to kill him or lock him up, according to witnesses.

Hayward gave up the cell phone and Jackson left, but several witnesses called 911 in the process according to the police report. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shawn LaGrua sentenced Jackson to five years in prison and 10 years probation, along with 200 hours of community service.

The Police are the enforcement arm of an insane legislature.
More and more menacing laws which cause all of us to be an outlaw at some time. Selectively enforced. Rarely enforced among fellow cops (professional courtesy). Police misconduct should be vigorously prosecuted... always. They need to be held to a higher standard.

Instead you get stories like this, Two Daytona Beach police officers are on administrative leave, after they broke into a house, tore the place apart, went outside and beat the siding with their nightsticks.

If a non-LEO had done this, the charge list would have reached your elbow... instead they got a "criminal mischief" charge and paid leave... yeah real justice going on there!

“*gasp!* - It can’t be, I know from reading FreeRepublic that the Police NEVER do anything wrong... not even at Costco!”

I know from reading FR that the only good cop is a dead one.
