I’m dubious. It sounds more to me like one of the soldiers in the unit wants to paint himself as a hero for reporting atrocities.
Could be true though. If so, those men should be punished with all due severity.
We’ve seen journalists who are willing to provoke a riot (throwing rocks at cops from within a crowd) to “report” on the angry mob.
We’ve seen members of the US military who are willing to steal tens of thousands of classified government documents and publish them in full view of the enemy.
We’ve seen members of the US military who are willing to throw grenades at their officers and gun down soldiers and their wives on base in the name of Islam.
We’ve seen members of the “insurgency” dress up as members of the US military to gun down members of the military and civilians.
When there are reports of “US soldiers” attacking civilians, I am left to wonder, were they really members of the US military and if they were, could they have been turncoats who act out to tank the military mission (not just a “soldier gone wild” but a genuine fifth columnist hellbent on taking the troops down from within).
Recall that the Abu Ghraib photos were leaked to the press by one of the men who was being prosecuted. He wanted a “plea bargain” and endangered our troops when he didn’t get his way. Could troops have been led to commit those attrocities by one who was not fully alligned to the US cause?
Lets not be so quick to believe the worst.
Maybe he wants to be the first one to receive the Medal of Restraint?
