Obamaism Eats Itself

By Kevin D. Williamson

Posted on September 09, 2010 11:54 AM

Rep. Gerry E. Connolly, a Northern Virginia Democrat facing a tough re-election challenge, has come out against letting the Bush tax cuts expire — even for the top brackets. This puts him right up in the teeth of the Obama administration and Nancy Pelosi. Why would a Democrat resist ORP’s (ORP = Obama-Reid-Pelosi) soak-the-rich agenda? Have a look at Connolly’s district: Fairfax County, part of the vast, soulless suburbs of Washington, D.C., is pretty high-income.

As our Battleground blogger Robert Stiles reports today, the average household income in Connolly’s district is more than $100,000 a year. And there are a lot of families with incomes over $200,000 a year and over $250,000 a year. In Washington, it’s not that hard to end up with a family income over $250,000 a year: Mr. $130,000 Bureaucrat marries Miss $130,000 Bureaucrat, and they join the ranks of “the rich.”

And under Obama, official Washington is getting a lot richer, with average federal compensation packages now worth about $120,000 a year — more than twice the going rate in the private sector. And it’s not just high salaries, pensions, and generous benefits: It’s private-sector-level bonuses, too:

They’re soulless alright...

This article doesn’t even take into account the cost of the Federal Workers’ benefits and pensions - far superior and more expensive than anything in the private sector. The majority of Federal employees are literally paid to sit on their fat a$$es and do nothing...

Everyone in America is getting pay cuts, benefit cuts and increased work responsibilities while the federal courtiers of Barry’s czar network enjoy unprecedented six figure salaries, lifetime jobs, no overtime and apparently four month vacations. Looking more like the Soviet Union every day.

I was just talking to a federal employee this afternoon whose wife works at the same agency he does. They have to be bringing in at least $200K, but probably considerably more. They are on the gravy train.

Contractors often do their work for them. That’s a fact.

Your average federal employee is part of the national defense infrastructure managed by the Department of Defense or is a postal worker.

I doubt any of them would care if you somehow could remove yourself from the national defense perimeter, as well as carrier delivery.

Eventually you may become sophisticated enough to differentiate between the Presidential appointees or Schedule Cs, and everybody else in government.

So start studying up on it.

I think the evil rich dims in congress must have exempted themselves from all taxes. Why else would they continue to vote to soak the rich? Seriously, I’m beginning to think that congressmen may have exemptions so these massive taxes don’t affect them. Are their heirs exempt from estate taxes?

Sure, right ~ having been a COTR more than once let me tell you the average body servant these days isn't worth a cat's behind.

You end up having to do all the accounting for the contractor who is always short in having people who can count ~ on the other hand there are these technical representatives and some of them are really stacked ~ they always have the numbers you want ~ but only a fool would get close to them in this day and age of secret video cameras.

Which is to say corruption is rife in the government contract business.

...and you’re shoveling the coal to keep it movin’ on down the tracks. How do you feel about that?

(I don’t like it much, myself.)

This issue is really touching a nerve in various localities, too. It’s not just about federal workers.

In Colorado, our city council is finally getting around to considering thinking about maybe asking city employees to pay for more of their health insurance. Previously, they’ve paid much less than private-sector employees.

City council is only considering any of this after having cut all sorts of services to tax payers. They decided to protect the city employees at the expense of taxpayers.

As a result, there will be no less than 3 initiatives on the ballot to take even more spending power away from officials in November.

Taxpayers nationwide are far from amused. Look at the angry protests in Bell, and Vernon, California for a preview of what’s to come.

Four-month vacations? I didn’t read the whole article, so I must have missed that one. Did he say it, or do you have a source for that? That is astounding.

I left out the “sarcasm” tag. I wrote this because I know that federal employees do not get four months of vacation. Not even close.

“Four-month vacations?”

I was referring specifically to Barry. He’s had two Martha’s Vinyard vacations, Maine vacation, Gulf Coast vacation, Florida vacation in the course of the past four months not including Camp David vacation and miscellaneous golfing getaways.

LOL! What’s your little problem dude?

As somebody else aptly wrote - the majority of the “real work” is performed by government contractors.

When I retired I'd not had more than three weeks off work or school since I turned 17. I also received a Perfect Attendance Award from Office of Management and Personnel ~ Many years I also carreid a full time work and school load.

4 month vacation?

I didn’t say that federal employees had four-month vacations. I was responding to purplelobster (see posts 14 and 15). Of course, it’s ridiculous. And I suppose federal employees don’t pay income tax, either.
