Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo resigned Thursday just before charges were filed in connection with the largest and most widespread corruption probe in Ohio history.
Russo resigned by letter to Cuyahoga County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones at about 9 a.m., said Jim McCafferty, spokesman for the commissioners.
Russo, 60, of Bratenahl, was then charged at 9:30 a.m. in a 21-count criminal information in connection with the Cuyahoga County public corruption investigation.
Federal prosecutors allege that Russo enriched himself at the expense of taxpayers.
Here is Frank Russo's resignation letter, which was addressed to county commissioners:
I humbly submit my resignation as auditor of Cuyahoga County with deep heart-felt gratitude for the opportunity to have served the citizens of Cuyahoga County for the past 26 years.
I apologize to anyone I have harmed for any decision I made that embarrassed or caused any harm to my office.
Sincerely, Frank Russo

The saddest part is that even after more than two years of the most incredible stories of corruption and criminality, the stupid vboters of Cleveland/Cuyahoga County would re-elect every one of thse crooks tommarow just as long as they had a 'D' after their name on the ballot. How do you think space man Dennis Kucinich gets re-elected every time?
He MUST be a Democrat since it doesn’t list him as a Republican....is he a Democrat??
Doesn’t matter...he said he was sorry! /s
Every name mentioned is a democrat. You cannot survive in politics in the Cleveland area as a republican.
Even STRONGSVILLE??? Used to live there...Wally was Mayor.
Bratenahl is still a haven for the well-to-do?
Why do you think the area is going to hell in a hand basket and has been doing so since the Democrats took over in the 1950’s. Stupid is as Stupid does and the Stupid reside in Cuyahoga County and they vote Democrat.
Strongsville, Home of the Convicted Fellon Ex-County Sherrif Geralt T. McFall. Democrat of Course!
Jim from C-town answered it best. I live in North Royalton and am constantly in amazement as to why these corrupt democrats constantly get re-elected.
Like somebody said, “it’s not who votes that counts. It’s who counts the votes that counts.”
Wally is gone (deceased). Tom Perciak is Mayor now, and Strongsville is one of the healthiest (economic-wise) communities in the County. Unfortunately, they ARE in Cuyahoga county, just across the border from Medina county, where taxes are and all County assessments are MUCH lower. We subsidize the cesspool of Cleveland’s water department, sewer department, etc., so the Dim’s can hand the money over to their friends (see the above story, which is coupled to MAJOR Union fraud, inflated benefits, constant raises to City workers, etc.), AND, the City of Cleveland has the Obamabots who depend on the “suburbanites” to pay for their every “need”.
Sorry to hear about Wally’s death!! I liked him!! He came and set a rabbit trap for me because they were destroying my plants.
Wally was a great guy...always mingled with EVERYONE, and at BBQ’s next door often. I’ve been living here since 1968, in a house I built myself.
I loved living in Strongsville!!! Small town America at it’s best....EXCEPT FOR THE TAXES!!
Yes; taxes are VERY high, but Services are great, and city planning is top notch. Unfortunately, the traditional suburb voters are so out-numbered in the County by the dependent class voters of the inner-city (Cleveland), we get stuck with Progressives who keep spending our grandchildren's income to keep them on the plantation (their voterbase).
AND you have the Cleveland Clinic!!
If you draw a line from Cleveland to Pittsburg (Keep Youngstown in the picture) and then come back through Canton, Ohio, then back up through Akron and onto Cleveland you have isolated an area that pales Chicago for corruption. It has taken law enforcement how many years to catch a couple minnows? The only reason this goodfellow was busted, he didn’t grease the right palms.
