Both Parties Prepping for Castle to Be Senate Nominee
Roll Call ^ | Sept. 8, 2010 | Steve Peoples

Posted on 09/08/2010 7:27:14 PM PDT by tlb

campaign officials from both sides of the aisle concede that Castle should capture the Republican Senate nomination in next week’s Delaware primary.

Signaling that the threat from tea party favorite and self-described marketing and media consultant Christine O’Donnell is believed to be exaggerated, the National Republican Senatorial Committee does not plan to devote any resources to help Castle survive the Sept. 14 primary.

National conservative groups have been reluctant to support O’Donnell. And Washington Democrats this week have stepped up their offensive against Castle, already looking ahead to the general election contest.

“I think that her winning is probably not likely,” one Democratic campaign aide said of O’Donnell. But [the internal fighting] still muddies this for him.”

Sen. Jim DeMint’s (R-S.C.) Senate Conservatives Fund, which has helped boost the candidacies of several nonestablishment Senate candidates this cycle, has shied away from endorsing O’Donnell, largely because of her questionable viability in the general election.

And citing the same viability fears, the Wall Street Journal urged voters to back Castle in a Wednesday editorial.

“She has little chance to win in November,” the editorial said of O’Donnell. “A two-time loser statewide, Ms. O’Donnell has a history of financial troubles and recently told the Weekly Standard her home and office were vandalized, though she hadn’t reported it to police. She recently accused a conservative local talk radio host that he had been ‘paid off’ by Mr. Castle’s supporters after he asked her tough questions.”

Polling released Tuesday reaffirms the viability questions.

The state reports 182,796 registered Republicans — just 29 percent of all registered voters.

Democrats, meanwhile, have decided not to wait until the primary.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee launched a new Web site, titled “Mike Castle’s Washington House of Waffles,” that blasts him for being “in the waffle business for years.”

“the National Republican Senatorial Committee does not plan to devote any resources to help Castle survive the Sept. 14 primary.”

What the hell does that mean? Are they devoting resources to the RINO Castle. This is what really pisses me off.

Pure propoganda. Castle would NOT have attacked O’Donnell so viciously if she were not a definite threat to upsetting him.

Reading other threads here, I would have thought the RNSC was already spending millions of dollars attacking O’Donnell. It surprises me to see in this article that they are actually not going to spend any money. Not that I would give them any money anyway, but it’s good to know they won’t waste anybody’s money attacking republicans.

I got TWO words for you cowardly pundits and establishment sissies.

Joe Miller!

He was DOWN by double digits in the polls. ODonnell is NOT.

Jim DeMint.... I am very disappointed. That is ALL it would take.

The GOP is going to WIN this fall.

It is going to be an ANTI DEM year.

If we nominate Smokey The Bear, he would WIN over any Dem.

So WHY would we not CRUSH a 28% ACU ranked Liberal?

STORM the Castle.

This is the “Castle version” of the Romney “inevitability meme” that you it’s in the bag and you need not show up to vote and/or the opponents are wasting their time going up against me.

We came home (Baltimore area) from Ocean City on Monday and counted signs just for the heck of it. Traveling US rt. 113 and Del rt. 1.

61 - O’Donnell
16 - Castle

Most of the Castle signs were a little larger and there was one bill-board sized but, 61 to 16. Wow.
Also all but one of the Castle signs were in the northern most county, New Castle.

As an out-of-stater, it looks like O’Donnell has a lot of ground support. We need to win this one and we can. Please donate.

Agreed, but Mike Castle's "vicious" attack was actually quite mild when you look at the stack of vulnerabilities Christine O'Donnell has. If she were a lib, FReepers would be having a field day!

Smokey Bear wouldn't have the huge pile of negatives that Christine O'Donnell carries.

Actually, even in Rasmussen's last two polls, she is...and falling.

Really. Care to elaborate. Just what would those 'negatives' be as apposed to the rat/rino 'Ruling class' Castle or the rat in the general?
