The powers that be are nervous about this because they believe it will elicit violence from the Muslims in America. The hand of the government would then be forced to act with force against that violence. From there it would escalate.
The end result is that the Democrats would lose a promising future constituency that lives to play the victim card.
America is a tender box and the goobers in gooberment know it. If they want to end the American Experiment once and for all... then they will suppress the majority of Americans and kill and jail tens of thousands for a domestic positioned enemy. There are not enough police to handle that and the Military will not react in lockstep.
