I disagree it is unpatriot to burn the book.

I agree that burning the book alone is not unpatriotic, and our freedom of expression should always be secured, but if there is a chance that burning of one book would cause less chance to win a war against terrorism, and result in thousands of Americans fighting for our country in Afghan to die by angry mad mobs with suicide vests for revenge as a result for Al Qaida using this for their propaganda to excite the local citizens, what is your answer.

I agree with the Pope. "Outrageous." "Grave."

NOT the way Christians behave.

So when do they put one of those “Coexist” bumper stickers on the Pope Mobile?

Actually, there are discussions going on about more religious freedom in islamic countries, but you wouldn’t know that unless you read the ‘orthodox’ (loyal to the Church) Catholic press.

That said, what on earth do you expect the Council to say? “Yes - burn those korans!!”? Of course religious leaders will condemn it.

And I take such things under advisement and am free to reject any such ideas coming from “the Vatican”. As other posters have pointed out, the Council speaks only for itself.

I am a loyal and devout Catholic and stand by the burning of the Koran as freedom of expression falling in the same category as Piss Christ and Dung Madonna, as well as the burning of the flag. I despise those things, but understand in a free society such things can and will occur.

Now as to the actual act under discussion (the burning of the koran), I am actually quite uncaring. I certainly don’t value the book or its message whatsoever!

It was a matter of time, the clash between islam and the West. If it hadn’t been the burning of the koran, it would have been something else.

Having watched (or tried to watch) a video of a 12-year-old boy cutting the throats of three Christians in Indonesia (one of them a 3-year-old), and seeing the celebrating by the adults with him; (think also of Danny Pearl, a Korean captive in Iraq, and many more) I find it hypocritical (as well as impossible) for anyone to get upset about someone burning a Koran.

Ding ding ding we have a winner

So, remind me again why we have to follow the rules, but 90%+ of the rest of the world does not.

Doesn't seem that strategy is working very well for us.

My sympathies lie with "Burn, Baby, burn!". Then, return 10 fold whatever the reaction might be.

That is a good question. People seem to forget that our troops are fighting side by side WITH Iraqi troops that are Muslims. Also, there won’t only be backlash from our military. Civilian Americans and Christians in Muslim countries will also be targeted.

“There will be backlash not only for our military but for Americans and especially Christians worldwide.”

Probably, but I am all for goading them at this point.

Part of their strategy is to act violent if they don’t get their way. Well, let them act violent, so we can kill them.

And they are both wrong.

Well, the Vatican is right, although certainly there has never been a book that more deserves burning than the Koran.

I know this preacher has every right to burn it, but it’s just a media-oriented provocation and it’s actually getting a lot of favorable press for the Muslims, so I think it’s going to backfire and deligitimize any protest.

I saw the crazy nutjob preachers sign on the side of his truck; on the news this morning.

Everyone calm down! Only the MSM,Obama and loon bin Imam, know how to properly spell...Quran.

The nut job preacher spelled it KORAN so they are really not burning the Quran just the Koran which does not exist.

So all is well move along nothing to see here ignore the MSM pounding this story desperately so they can legitimize ISLAMOPHOBIA daily!

Maybe the Quran has a passage that radicals believe if some paid off loon job preacher burns they're Quran thay can strap a bomb to themselves and die for allah and get one trillion virgins that look like this...

Because we are Americans, and our entire system was built on moral principles.

We are 'exceptional,' and therefore live by a higher standard of behavior.

"Burn, baby, burn" may satisfy an emotional need in some, but it is the wrong thing to do.

I really do not care what anyone does to the book of satan.

Who the hell cares if it inflames muslims? We are going to have to fight and defeat them, because they ain’t gonna share this planet with anyone other than themselves, so to Hell with their book, from whence it came.

As a catholic who knows rather well the catholic church and studied théology in Rome, i don’t agree with many statements from the Vatican or catholic leaders on social and political issues.
Many bishops and even the pope sometimes surrendered to the politically correct, to the modern liberal ideology which is spread by big governments, big medias and international institutions like UN...

I don’t agree with everything coming from the Vatican as i respect some catholics who were good and brave christians(bishops, popes , monks or simple christians)through history
