A protest in Los Angeles over a deadly police shooting of an immigrant turned into a clash between the cops and demonstrators Monday.
Police donned riot gear to clear an area near MacArthur Park around 10 p.m. as angry protesters began throwing bottles and setting trash cans on fire.
Only a couple of people were arrested, police said.
The clash was sparked by an incident on Sunday afternoon, when bicycle cops were alerted to a man allegedly waving a knife at pedestrians. When they arrived, offices ordered the man to drop the blade. When he refused, he was shot dead.
"He came after the officers with a knife raised in the air, leading one of the officers to fire at the suspect," LAPD Lt. Andrew Neiman told The Associated Press.

I would encourage any community activist to go to any major city in Latin America and stand on a busy street corner.
No. Really. Your fingers would thank me. :)
I agree. Pretty soon, they'll probably target patriots.
So, I did need a sarcasm tag. How bout that?
Yeah, I would think so, given the fact that you said you "Agreed" with the posters comment.
My apologies. I thought the sheer absurdity of the statement was a dead giveaway.
Between yours and taxtruth's, it was hard to tell which was more absurd....
Krav Maga prepares you for combat like pantomiming a trigger pull and making “kapow” noises prepare you for a 1500 yard head shot. “Well, I’ve never actually taken the shot, but I’ve pretended to a lot.”
If the first time you’re expected to actually perform the move 100 percent is in combat, you’re going to fail. Plain and simple. And since KM doesn’t represent itself in combat sports...they’re going to fail. And if KM DID represent itself in combat sports, stripped of its groin strikes, hair pulls, and eye gougues...it wouldn’t be KM, it would be techniques stolen from wrestling/KB/Boxing/MT/etc...it would just be a mishmash of other fighting arts.
I like to ask people to perform the “Krav Maga” challenge. What is the KM challenge? Simple.
I challenge anyone to find one video...ONE VIDEO...of a KM practicioner that isn’t a silly glossy promo video created by the KM studio and using actors.
You can find countless boxing videos...kickboxing...MT...wrestling...even TMA competition...all practicing and displaying the effectiveness of their craft.
But what you won’t find is anything but slick advertisements for KM. You won’t find one real KM fight. You won’t find one, not one, pair of KM fighters sparring.
So then...what is a “fighting art” that doesn’t spar? Why it is nothing, nothing at all. Just like a sniper school that doesn’t actually fire live ammo at targets.
Maybe he thought he was saying “Bring the knife to me and hand it to me”.
Well, it’s not an “art”, or a “sport”, that’s for sure. But when I’ve seen KM used on the street, things tend to get resolved very quickly indeed, so they’re doing something right.
As always, YMMV.
Edward’s Steak House was the first “real” restaurant I ever remember going to. They had sawdust on the floor and a delicious menu. Eventually, because of the neighborhood deterioration -— as you say -— they moved to another location and only a few weeks ago, closed for good.
Exactly! If they tried this in Guatemala, they would become one of the "desaparecidos," i.e., "the disappeared." They are snatched from their homes in the night, tortured until they die and thrown in a mass grave. They come here and achieve freedom from that and look what they do. They actually trashed the front of a police station last night. In addition, they were getting on top of buildings in the neighborhood and dropping the following objects, hoping they would land on the police officers: air conditioners, televisions and microwaves, among other heavy objects that can kill.
LOL.
You forgot to end your post with “Any questions?”
:):)
Edwards on Alvarado closed probably 20 years ago. The Edwards that closed recently was in El Monte.
As if the LAPD could shoot that well.
Did you read my post? If you didn’t, let me repeat. I said that the Edward’s Steak House that WAS on Alvarado MOVED to another location and CLOSED recently. They were one and the same, same owners and even the same waitresses. What did you think I was saying????
I love LA too, al. It is my hometown and a great place to live!
The LAPD is very highly trained. They have gorgeous grounds and facilities at the LA Police Academy.
BTW, I’ can’t belive Villaraigosa actually came out in support of the officers [who were all Hispanic].
