The Dog Daze of a Presidency
michellemalkin.com ^ | 9/6/10 | Doug Powers

President Obama apparently strayed off-prompter briefly Monday. This somewhat whiny reference seems like something that would come from a politician exhausted by marathon campaigning and beaten down by the opposition, which is odd for someone whose party is still in control of Washington and who spent the better part of the summer on vacation:

Obama was in Milwaukee to speak at the Milwaukee Laborfest, attended by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. He used the speech to promote his $50 billion infrastructure plan and to criticize Republicans ahead of crucial midterm elections.

“Some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time and they’re not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true,” he told the union crowd. If by “like a dog” Obama means that every one year of his presidency feels like seven, I’m forced to agree with him. Otherwise it’s a little insulting, if for no other reason than that there are many breeds of dogs that could run the country at a lower unemployment rate.

How exactly does one talk about somebody like a dog? Or are the “powerful interests” talking to a dog — or are they speaking as a dog? Are the “powerful interests” dog haters? Are the “powerful interests” democrats who are trying to get re-elected? It’s anybody’s guess.

I totally agree. It’s a very common phrase.

Talk about him like a dog?

No. Not me.

Dog crap maybe.

But certainly not a dog.

Unless he means he is an untrained mongrel that won't listen and keeps crapping on everything.

Coming November 2nd:

Bad Bammy!

It would be like trying to make some connection to Judaism with the phrase “bringing home the bacon.” Muslims hate dogs, but that has nothing to do with this phrase which is used in common parlance.

“They talk about me like a dog.”

That’s exactly what O would say, off the mark.

From the beginning I’ve said the problem with the guy is, he’s all about himself, me, me, me, I, I, I. The MSM swooned over every speech, and I kept saying to myself, am I crazy? Am I the only one who hears the self-absorption, the “He disrespected me!” whine coming from this man?

Just think if Bush had complained to a bunch of reporters, “They talk about me like I’m a dog!”.

I don’t even have to finish that thought. Just thinking about it coming out of someone else’s mouth, it sounds childlike and petulant. But somehow when O says it, people are conditioned to think it ok.

Fair enough. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. For myself, I hear this phrase as part of an overall, sum total of what he’s said and done and how he behaves. For myself, I believe Barak Hussein Obama is at best a Muslim sympathizer and at worst an active enemy of the U.S.

You're too kind...I cheated on this one...all I added to the picture was the flies, the purple lips and I enlarged the ears. I found the basic picture elsewhere.

But, the caption and the frame are mine. I just thought it was a funny picture and just fit the kenyans comments.

Thanks

i totally agree with you with respect to the obams, but have you never heard the phrase used before? because that would affect how one perceives his use of it.

They talk about me like a dog.

Isn't that a lyric from an old Jimi Hendrix song, Stone Free?

I have been thinking along the same lines. IMHO, he hinted at this when he gave that interview where he said he’d rather be a good one termer than a two termer.

Just that he said that meant it was going through his mind. It’s not something a hard campaigner for the presidency would say. When he first went over to Europe in March, the British papers said he seemed astounded by the sheer amount of work that crosses the presidents desk.

I truly think he is a shallow man who viewed the presidency as an end in itself. Oh, he wants to remake the country as a good leftist, but it’s just proving really stressful. The presidency winnows out men of lesser character. It’s a hard mistress.

No one leaves that office unchanged. The Clintons were the only ones I ever saw that looked like they hadn’t been through a grinder when they left. I think Barry thought “he could relax now.” Ha!

As I said, taking all things in total, my perception of his use of this phrase is as I stated. Not any kind of deliberate “code”, just another gaffe, another remark that alludes to things that are part of him.

I have never heard this phrase spoken about in the context of political disagreement. I’ve heard “worked me like a dog” in reference to physical labor. I have never heard someone say “they talk about me like a dog” when referring to others who disagree with or don’t like them.

I truly think he is a shallow man who viewed the presidency as an end in itself.

****

He has his leftist/marxist objectives, but he thought that the actual “office work” would be done by the unlimited number of ‘czars’ that he could hire, and by the people who got him elected: Jarrett, Emanuel, Plouffe, etc.

He did not see himself doing “office work” any more than he saw himself in the White House kitchen or garden or any other work area.

He saw his “job” as spokesman/seller of the “change” agenda.

It’s sometimes said “I would not treat a dog that way” but the analogous comment from Obama would then have been “they treat me WORSE than a dog.”

Obama would much rather that people treat him like a cat.

Dogs have masters; they obey.

Cats have staff; they are catered to.
