The month of September 2005 was a very busy month for President Bush after Katrina came on land at the Gulf coast and damaged the area. We see President Bush and First Lady Laura visiting New Orleans and other affected areas in Louisiana and Mississippi to comfort the victims of the hurricane and bring aid
The country lost Chief Justice William Renquist who passed away on September 3, 2005
President Bush nominated Judge Roberts to become the next Chief Supreme Court Justice. On September 29th Justice Roberts was sworn in as the 20th? Supreme Court Chief Justice.
President Bush remembered 9/11 heroes at a Medal of Valor ceremony. He also met with several foreign leaders and addressed the Useless Nations
For the quote of the month I have chosen President Bushs Remarks which he gave at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service on September 16, 2005

Thank you! --it's a really pretty morning here in San Diego---crisp, but really pretty. It's a GREAT day for Christ's birthday to be celebrated!
And...
'Tis the SEASON to remember and not the gifts bought in December. It's not about the stores and malls. It's about the birth of our Saviour---and America coming home...to "Bedford Falls!"

Thanks so much for that lovely nostalgic Barney and Beasley Christmas scene. Sigh. Barney will turn 11 years old in 2011. As President Bush observed in his first Inaugural Address, the years and changes accumulate. I'll bet Barney has gray in his eyebrows and beard now.
Once again I want to quote my favorite passage from one of his speeches:
Inaugural Address, January 20, 2001, President George W. BushAfter the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?'
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity. We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
