CHARLESTON A Charleston man is charged with unlawful neglect after deputies say one of his twin daughters walked out of their home and fell into a pond while he slept.
Authorities responded to 2903 Doncaster Drive at 6:13 p.m. Thursday and found one of the 1-year-old girls neck deep in a pond behind the house. A dog was in the water with her, preventing the girl from going under, a Charleston County Sheriffs Office incident report said.
Deputies charged Adam S. Gray, 33, with unlawful neglect by a custodian after firefighters pulled the girl from the pond and took her to a local hospital to be evaluated, the report said.
A Charleston police officer entered the house through an unlocked back door and found Gray asleep in bed. The officer was able to wake him up after several attempts, the report said.
Gray told officers he put the sleeping children inside their cribs about 5 p.m. and closed the door to their upstairs bedroom before going to his room next to it and falling asleep. He said he usually could hear the girls if they attempted to go down the stairs but didnt this time, the report said.
Police say the twins were able to push down a gate at the edge of the stairwell and then walk downstairs and out the back door, when one of them fell into the pond. A neighbor heard the girls playful voice and called police.
The mother took custody of the children.
Gray does not have any felony convictions in South Carolina, according to a State Law Enforcement Division criminal record check.
A magistrate set Grays bail at $10,000 Friday.
You’re right. All the best parents use Velcro.
I had my daughter, just turned two, take off on me one day while I was changing the diaper of #2.
She ran downstairs, opened the door, and ran out into the front yard in seconds. I saw her take off in the house, but what do you do with an infant on a changing table? You can’t leave him alone. I grabbed him and covered him up and raced downstairs as fast as I could but she still beat me out into the yard.
She never did that again. I took several steps to prevent any further occurrences.
It’s a great idea.
They can’t get up without you knowing.
It’s like those childproof pill bottles. If an adult has a problem with one, never fear, just hand it to a kid. The kid will have it open within half a minute.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!
You made my day!
What a good Mommy. Do you prefer duct tape or Velcro?
Well, duct tape is probably more effective, but you can’t rip velcro apart without making a godawful racket.
Oh, PLEASE!! Give it a rest!
It’s a good idea to make their clothes out of one side of the Velcro, and glue the other side to the walls, ceilings, cabinets, etc. If they bounce on the beds or run and slide across the kitchen floor, problem solved.
I don’t understand your reply, or the responses of many on this thread. I’m a religious agnostic and most on this board profess to be Christians. You are supposed to be a better person than I am, but your posting prooves otherwise.

Therein lies the root of your confusion.
....My thoughts exactly!....
Simple solution for a simple problem, get the second dog to watch the other child.
True story. When my children were very young I had an Irish Setter. “Irish” would sit out in the yard with the children and watch them. She would not allow the children near the edge of the yard. Anytime they got out of her idea where the children should be and near the street, she would grab them by the seat of the pants and pull them back to what she considered her safety area. No one was allowed near the children unless I OK’s it with her. “Irish” was a very special dog. She also had three kittens that she supervised.
My son did this once in the middle of the night when he was 3. I snapped the top button of his pants before he left our house, something that I did several times a day when he got dressed or went potty. I remembered the next day that I helped him in my sleep. He ended up three blocks away at a friends house. He woke them by ringing the door bell asking if he could play w/ his buddy Colton.
Later that morning we installed a new lock on the front door that he couldn’t reach.
It happens. Kids are monkeys, they can climb over and over almost anything. It is BS that the Father is in jail.
I could have been arrested.
That's the first thing I thought too. I could not see a little child in a pond and not do something besides call 911 and wait.
The real story here is the dog, who obviously has a higher IQ than the neighbor.
No you are not crazy. Kids are escape artists, even at that age. If this happened as the father said it did, it was an accident.
Now it is neglect to nap when your child naps?
Damn, there is not enough jail space.
