What is more alarming is the weekly filings from the BLS is “first time filers”. Considering that number has been around 450,000 or more each month of this so-called recovery should be scaring the hell out of people. They use the number from week to week and the differences between them to make a case that it is getting better. How in the hell are we supposed to get all warm and fuzzy when over 400,000 NEW people are filing for unemployment each week?
Ir scares me because I know what it is like applying for jobs 24/7 and being on the verge of being foreclosed upon, no income whatsoever and wondering when we do get the boot, where do we go?
It is a horrible feeling and yes, I do have experience but it is not easy. I am not looking for a job that pays top dollar either, just one that covers the bills and maybe rent.
The 400,000 t0 450,000 is actually a 4 week running total. But that number doesn’t tell the whole story as it is a gross number of jobs lost without considering the number of people who got a job and went off unemployment. The net number is more like -20,000 jobs a week.
