A mistake has been made in the Oval Office makeover that goes beyond the beige.
President Obama's new presidential rug seemed beyond reproach, with quotations from Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. woven along its curved edge.
"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." According media reports, this quote keeping Obama company on his wheat-colored carpet is from King.
Except it's not a King quote. The words belong to a long-gone Bostonian champion of social progress. His roots in the republic ran so deep that his grandfather commanded the Minutemen at the Battle of Lexington.
For the record, Theodore Parker is your man, President Obama. Unless you're fascinated by antebellum American reformers, you may not know of the lyrically gifted Parker, an abolitionist, Unitarian minister and Transcendentalist thinker who foresaw the end of slavery, though he did not live to see emancipation. He died at age 49 in 1860, on the eve of the Civil War

I used to work for a furniture manufacturer (sofas, chairs, ottomans, and yes... POUFS), and you're exactly right about that. Shoddy.
THAT’s what I’M talkin’ about!!
A want that bear there for Putin’s next visit.
You mean they didn’t appoint anyone to copyedit the rugs?
AHHAHAHAHAHA..the Oval Office looks like a catalog room for Rooms To Go now.
I think he wanted to put “A government by the people, for the people, and from the people, to each according to his needs.”
So are the lamps. The coffee table and lamps are modern, they look cheap and don’t go with the rest of the furniture and office. They have no taste. It looks like a Holiday Inn lobby.
When we remodeled our kitchen we got all stainless appliances. We kept them for 2 years and then changed them all to bisque. it’s a bright kitchen, southern exposure and they showed every little fingerprint, etc. The bisque is pretty and brightened it up. Not as dark as almond, more like an off white.
I think the lamps, coffee table and wallpaper are hideous. Striped wall paper in an oval office is ridiculous. Dizzy!
I don’t care for the lamps or the coffee table either. They are both too contemporary for the WH. You know there were antiques stored away in the attic that could have been refurbished. Or pieces that could have been swapped from other rooms, that is if the clintons left anything.
I saw a thug/pimp in a 7-11 this week who looked just like that...
Reminds me of the United States right now.
We needed to remodel our kitchen, since we hadn’t really done anything to it in the 22 years we’ve lived here, except replace appliances as needed. We’re planning to sell, but I still didn’t get Stainless steel appliances, even though Realtors seem to be enamored of it. I got bisque, as well, because it seems warmer, to me. We’re painting the cabinets, which are 80s oak, a nice warm cream, similar to the bisque. The colors will come in with the quartz countertops and the tile backsplash. ;o)
Note the varied textures of fabric and objects.
Note the collection of objects to carry the eye through the room.
Note the balance of accent colors, red and green.
Note the varied heights of objects in the room to lend balance.
Nancy Reagan had absolutely perfect taste.
