AP isn't buying that combat operations are over ( yes, it does say AP! )

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama told Americans from the Oval Office:

...So tonight, I am announcing that the American combat mission in Iraq has ended. Operation Iraqi Freedom is over, and the Iraqi people now have lead responsibility for the security of their country.

The Associated Press thinks that's not quite an accurate reflection of how things really are in Iraq. In a memo to the wire service's staffers posted on AP's website, standards editor Tom Kent writes:

...To begin with, combat in Iraq is not over, and we should not uncritically repeat suggestions that it is, even if they come from senior officials. The situation on the ground in Iraq is no different today than it has been for some months. Iraqi security forces are still fighting Sunni and al-Qaida insurgents. Many Iraqis remain very concerned for their country's future despite a dramatic improvement in security, the economy and living conditions in many areas.

Not sure about linking and posting an AP article but this caught my attention.

This might be an early sign that the MSM is ready and willing to throw Obama under the bus as his popularity continues to tank.

President Obama said Monday night that “the American combat mission in Iraq has ended. Operation Iraqi Freedom is over, and the Iraqi people now have lead responsibility for the security of their country.”

But we have 4,500 Special Operations troops in country, according to the AP?

If it were a Republican president the AP wouldn't be putting out memos to their writers, they'd be putting out headlines every day declaring that the Republican president is a liar.

But, but, why is my son still carrying a rifle in Iraq and has been told he will be there until next summer?
