Poll: Charlie Baker closing in on Gov. Deval Patrick

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Charlie Baker is surging in the race for the Corner Office, pulling within 2 points of Gov. Deval Patrick when voters "leaning" to his campaign are counted, according to a poll released today.

The Rasmussen Reports telephone survey found the race tightening when those crucial “leaners” are added up. That group are voters who have not definitively decided who to back, but are pointing toward a particular candidate.

Patrick holds 44 percent of the vote and Baker picks up 42 percent when the leaners are factored in, the poll said. Independent Timothy Cahill has eight percent.

Overall, Patrick holds a 5-point lead over Baker. The Rasmussen Reports telephone survey found Patrick securing 39 percent of the vote with Baker picking up 34 percent. Cahill, the state treasurer, holds 18 percent of the vote, the poll found.

The figures are similar to the polling numbers published in July by Rasmussen when Patrick held a six point lead over Baker, the former CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

Despite the findings, the poll also revealed many voters remain open to switching their vote.

Pollsters found 64 percent of Patrick’s supporters are committed to voting for him and will not change their minds. The poll also found that 58 percent of Baker’s supporters are sticking with him and 28 percent of Cahill’s backers are definitely voting for him.

The survey of 500 likely voters was conducted on July 22 and has a margin of error of 4.5 percent.

That’s very low support for an incumbent governor. He could be defeated.

Until Massachusetts gets its stuff together and elects a bipartisan (or, unthinkably, a strongly conservative) legislature, the person in the Governor’s mansion is nothing more than a figurehead. Right now, the legislature is almost exclusively far-left lib democrat, and is so rife with corruption, graft, backroom deals, and otherwise shady politics, that its a wonder the state has lasted as long as it has.

Ditto, plus the last several Massachusetts Governors have been leftists, both Democratic leftists and Republican leftists, anyways. Massachusetts has been stuck on leftist politics for over sixty years and with no actual end in sight, just like all past, present, and, possibly, future socialistic countries (hint U.S.A.).

But Cahill could take enough votes away from Baker to ensure Patrick gets re-elected. In today’s Boston Herald, Cahill
fired back at their columnist Howie Carr who said he should drop out of the race.

For the record, Cahill is an ex-Democrat who praised and
supported Gov. Patrick in 2006. Now he says “I know you are fed up after four years of Deval. Trust me, most of us are. In fact, that is why I am running.” Same guy couldn’t
praise Deval enough not too long ago. And now votes for
him could put “No Ordinary Leader”, Barack Jr., back in office.

Cahill is so obviously a “stalking-horse” to siphon votes from Baker as a “change” candidate that it would take a blind man not to see it.

Baker if pro-RomneyCARE, pro-Romney,
and would not allow a GOP primary.

NO ROMNEY CLONES.

4 more years of moonbat Deval, then. Mass. can’t elect a true conservative but I’ll settle for a partial victory over no victory at all.

RomneyCARE is a “partial victory” to you?

No ROMNEYCARE. No OBAMACARE. No BAKER. No ROMNEY.

Have a good day, rr.

Sorry, cannot bring myself to vote for either Democrat
Deval Patrick or Democrat Tim Cahill. Don’t believe the
“independent” bit.
