Childs Ordeal Shows Risks of Psychosis Drugs for Young
OPELOUSAS, La. At 18 months, Kyle Warren started taking a daily antipsychotic drug on the orders of a pediatrician trying to quell the boys severe temper tantrums.
Thus began a troubled toddlers journey from one doctor to another, from one diagnosis to another, involving even more drugs. Autism, bipolar disorder, hyperactivity, insomnia, oppositional defiant disorder. The boys daily pill regimen multiplied: the antipsychotic Risperdal, the antidepressant Prozac, two sleeping medicines and one for attention-deficit disorder. All by the time he was 3.
He was sedated, drooling and overweight from the side effects of the antipsychotic medicine. Although his mother, Brandy Warren, had been at her wits end when she resorted to the drug treatment, she began to worry about Kyles altered personality. All I had was a medicated little boy, Ms. Warren said. I didnt have my son. Its like, youd look into his eyes and you would just see just blankness.
Today, 6-year-old Kyle is in his fourth week of first grade, scoring high marks on his first tests. He is rambunctious and much thinner. Weaned off the drugs through a program affiliated with Tulane University that is aimed at helping low-income families whose children have mental health problems, Kyle now laughs easily and teases his family.

What else are the schools going to do? Any effective action is likely met with a lawsuit from the parents.
Remember when the cops were called to handle a 1st grader? It wasn’t because the school officials didn’t know what to do, it was because they knew if they so much as laid a hand on the kid they’d be in deep shit.
Your post reminded me of this Funny Home Video:
Why waste a temper tantrum if nobody is around to see it????

The dumb "adult" and dog having to move from room to room is even more hilarious. THAT kid rules! I don't know who is more hilarious, the kid or the "adult".
What is wrong with this is having the kid set YOUR agenda. Sure the kid will tire out and stop but that is not learning SELF CONTROL. An adult believing that is lazy and only fooling themselves. Apparently we have a lot of that in our society.
Thanks to Dr. Spock, who came on the scene about 50 years ago, people believe that spanking equals beating the crap out of a kid. It doesn't. More kids make the headlines today than ever before and more kids are on drugs today because they CAN NOT CONTROL themselves and have no respect for authority. But hey, stupid adults refuse to get it. Today the larger problem is narcissism and self absorption. I'm thankful those days are over.
I'm to the point where if others want to let a KID run you around for attention, so be it! The kid will just escalate it as they get older to other things. If they learn SELF CONTROL and RESPECT for AUTHORITY at an early age, you don't have the issue later. It's already a part of them.
I see an Obama kid in the making ...
Recall the comment, “why waste a crisis” ... it's the same kind of mentality.
If that isn't criminal child abuse, I don't know what is.
Prior to one of my sons being born, I would have been one of the people criticizing Kyle’s mother. I knew kids needed consistency and discipline. I had no trouble with spanking. But none of that helped when my son was born. He lived in a loving, Christian, church-going, two-parent home, but there were parts of him that we had no idea how to manage. We prayed, read Christian parenting books, but none of it made any difference.
With that experience, I have difficulty pointing fingers when parents seek help from professionals because they have no idea what to do next. Yes, sometimes even when it involves medications. We experienced the doctors who seemed all too willing to prescribe medications, but frankly when at our wit’s end, and the challenges with our son causing marital difficulties, we did try several medications briefly. I bristle at the suggestions that parents such as us should have our kids taken away. Such attitudes help neither the child nor the parents, but rather serve to isolate those families who need help.
Even after two pages, I know very little of Kyle’s story, but I’d guess it would have been radically different were there family members or other people to support the parents. If nothing else, another set of eyes to evaluate what might help him. For all of doctors’ good intentions, they see a child for a very small percentage of the time, and in a extra-ordinary environment. We all did what we thought was right, but it really was just a stab in the dark.
Hint: It is never right to drug a kid to save a marriage.
The majority of the ‘diet’ is to remove all articifial colorings and flavorings.
Hint: That’s not why we tried medication.
