“Is that really true??”
Yes. I was standing about 10 feet from a platform near Ft. Stockton, TX when we got a kick that picked the rig up and threw it in the air. The entire basement (where the BOP was) was a crater.
I ran and ran.
pipe and crap came flying out of the hole like spagetti, landing all around me.
No fire, and we came in with mud trucks and killed the thing.
In the ocean? We’d have all been dead.

You need to post some links....I think I can speak for Xenalyte when I gently admonish you that Texans don't cotton to being told what they "need" to do.
Asking politely, however, may garner a bit more of a positive response. ;-)

You stated “No way two rigs explode within months”.
That was not speculation? It has been shown to actually happen fairly often.

So you posted asking what was up? Did you not want an answer?
Why are you here?

I did a little study on the data you linked at this post.
I cannot vouch for the comprehensive nature or the total inclusiveness of this data. I can only deal with the data itself as presented.
Here are some interesting numbers.
Of the 184 incidents documented, 61 were listed as (GOM) Gulf of Mexico.
This data covers 60 years in total, but incidents for the GOM only cover 50 years. People can make of that what they will. Were there GOM incidents in that other ten years not reported? Perhaps so. Perhaps not.
I will deal with the fifty year data for GOM as presented.
In that fifty year “rig” history, only 7 incidents involved fire or explosions. If we address only the platform histories, we’re talking about four fires or explosions.
In that fifty year “rig” history, there is only one mention of an explosion. If we’re addressing explosions involving a platform, that drops to zero.
In that fifty year “rig” history, 14 blowouts occurred in the GOM. If we’re addressing blowouts on platforms, that number drops to six.
Xenalyte, if you have a link to the numbers of fires and explosions data you provided, I’d like to take a look at it too. If you provided it already, I’m sorry I missed it. Which post?

It’s really not. As post 268 demonstrates, blowouts and fires and explosions happen a lot.

per WBAP: Mariner Spokesman Says No Well Blowout At Gulf Rig Explosion (Undated) -- A well blowout is being ruled out by the owner of the oil rig as the cause of today's explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Mariner Energy spokesman Patrick Cassidy explained. Cassidy said no hydrocarbon spill was detected at the site of the spill during a fly-over today. The spokesman stated the explosion occurred at a production platform when a fire broke out. He pinpointed the location of the explosion as about 100 miles off the Louisiana coast at a water depth of about 320 feet. Coast Guard sources say the 13 people aboard the rig at the time of the explosion are safe. Additional Audio (links at site): Mariner Energy spokesman Patrick Cassidy described the location of the explosion. Cassidy said no hydrocarbon spill has been reported.

I wanted to ask; how active is your The Baby’s Named a Bad, Bad Thing Ping List!? I think I learned of the website of same name from one of your posts. Still cracks me up...

A refinery explosion or fire on the Houston Ship channel happens so often it isn’t always report on the evening news.
Granted the BP event was devastating. But BP didn’t need terrorist help to do that one. They cut their corners all on their own.

This rig fire may be too small to even make that list.
That link is only major disasters with loss of life or major cost. There are dozens of small events for everyone listed on that site.
