Just received. The official message from the Chief of Chaplains, U.S. Army through the Chief of Chaplains, U.S. Navy:
Subject: FW: CH (UNCLASSIFIED)

It is with my deepest sympathy and utmost respect that I announce to our Chaplain Corps that Chaplain (CPT) Dale A. Goetz was killed in action in Afghanistan on August 30, 2010 while serving as the Battalion Chaplain for 1-66th Armor Battalion, 4th Infantry Division. Dale was one of five Soldiers killed by an Improvised Explosive Device while traveling in a convoy near Kandahar Province. Chaplain Goetz is survived by his wife, Christy, and by their three sons- Landon, Caleb and Joel.
Chaplain Goetz is the first military chaplain killed in action in Iraq or Afghanistan. Dale was a selfless servant of God, a devoted husband and father, a strong American patriot, and a compassionate spiritual leader whose love for Soldiers was only surpassed by his firm commitment to living his calling as a United States Army Chaplain.
Please join with me in prayer for Christy, Landon, Caleb and Joel as we mourn with them in the loss of Dale, our fellow Soldier and Unit Ministry Team member. Let us also strive to honor Dale's sacrifice with a continuing bold commitment to ensure the finest religious support and pastoral care possible for our beloved Soldiers and their Families.
May God bless the Goetz Family and the Families of all our Fallen Soldiers; and, may God bless our Army and the United States of America.
PRO DEO ET PATRIA...FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!
DOUGLAS L. CARVER Chaplain (Major General) US Army Chief of Chaplains

And your point? That the notification of death is not enough? What kind of ghoul are you?

God is rejoicing over him And with him. So much prayer for comfort of children, wives, sisters. Brothers, fellow soldiers and all who loved him and the others who died this week. I pray this will end.
I’m sad to see my Air Force son leave his wife and little 1st grade daughter and pre-k son again in Oct. He just got home in mid-Feb. He isn’t in combat, but he is away, in Qatar, working 12 hr shifts at stressful job in heat over 120. He’s been gone more than half of his kid’s lives.
It’s so hard on the military and families. It’s been so long. Sometimes I just fast forward through Special Report news when it’s about Iraq or Afghanistan. I pray every day for military and the wars, but there are times I just can’t take it, especially with our CC. God is the only answer.
Our priest is an Army Chaplain and was just sent to Afghanistan about 3 weeks ago. Prayers for this man and family who was just killed there.
“May Christ, our true God, who hath dominion over the living and the dead: through the prayers of His all-holy Mother; of our righteous and God-bearing Fathers; and of all His Saints, establish the soul of His servant, the Chaplain Dale, departed from us, in His holy mansions, and number him among the just; and have mercy upon us: Forasmuch as He is good and loveth mankind.
May his memory be eternal!
Chaplain Ping
Prayers for his widow and children.
Amen to the ping and the prayer.
The battalion chaplains are the lifes blood of the Army Chaplaincy.
I consider your post #15 to be tasteless toward this deceased Chaplain, his family, his unit, and the US Army. And toward all who have paid the ultimate price in all our wars.
Shame on you for your lack of sensitivity.
Fr Bob Brett was my Latin teacher in high school in Cleveland.
RIP and God bless.
May Dale’s Memory be Eternal! Vjecnaja pamjat!
And may our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ strengthen and console Dale’s family, and also the brave American solders to whom Dale ministered.
Amen.
“Dies” and “was killed” are different.

Prayers up for Chaplain Goetz’ loved ones. May he Rest In Peace.
I have seen it all, Hank, and your post, and this one, too, is insensitive.
And disrespectful.
Shame on you.
Prayers lifted for Chaplain Goetz, and his family.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
God Bless you xzins, and thank you for your service as well.
Yea, verily.
The Moderators are quite strict about posting article titles exactly as written, without alteration, even when those titles have been written poorly.
Daniel Gard, author of the article (poor title and all) is a U.S. Navy Chaplain.
You did it right. I know titles need to be the original wording. You would think the author, especially a fellow chaplain, would tell it like it is in the title.
