Administration Tries and Fails To Pull a Fast One (Drilling Moratorium)
American Thinker ^ | September 1, 2010 | Clarice Feldman

Having been enjoined by Judge Feldman (no relation) from trying to halt oil drilling based on inadequate scientific basis, the Administration's Secretary Salazar, tried to pull a fast one by simply issuing another moratorium. Judge Feldman has refused to play along:

The federal judge who struck down the Obama administration's initial six-month moratorium on deepwater oil-drilling dealt the government another blow on Wednesday.

U.S. District Court Judge Martin Feldman denied the government's request to throw out a suit challenging the drilling halt that had been filed by offshore-oil-service companies. Justice Department lawyers had argued the lawsuit was moot because the Interior Department imposed a new, temporary drilling ban on July 12, replacing a May 28 order that Judge Feldman had struck down in June.

But Judge Feldman ruled that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar's second moratorium order "is substantially the same as the first one" and "applies to the exact same rigs, to the exact same deepwater drilling, for the exact same time period."

Judge Feldman also noted that in crafting the second moratorium, Mr. Salazar appeared to have relied heavily on documents and data that he had at the time of the first moratorium order.

Who's dumber, Salazar or the Department of Justice lawyers making such frivolous claims?

I would like to have seen Judge Feldman get Salazar's and Obama's attention by throwing Salazar in jail for contempt of court for enacting the second drilling ban.

Good Gosh. I am glad SOMEONE is paying attention and not just rolling over for this POSOTUS and his administration.

If this judge is in the pocket of the oil industry...ALL THE BETTER.

Amen to that!

I love Clarice’s last sentence:

“Who’s dumber, Salazar or the Department of Justice lawyers making such frivolous claims?”

LOL! She’s right on.

I think the judge saw right through their scheme and he has good reason to be pi$$ed at the Obama crew at this point.

No doubt about it. I believe Salazar stated he’d sign another moratorium the day the ruling came out based on new or different info, it was pure BS and the judge knew it.

"When can drilling start up again??"

As soon as the rigs have set up shop with other countries who haven't imposed moratoria.

They really got 3 knock-out blows on this one. First of all they would not make any attempt to address the problem in the first place & waited until it got out of hand. This was the perfect 'crisis' to stop 'big oil' for the Obama administration.

In order to fulfill their dream, they issued the first moratorium, putting thousands of people out of work. That didn't fly either.

They tried again the third time... This time they stuck out!!

They need to get busy and develop more oil in AK..build more pipline, if needed, except to Kali. etc.,,tell them to go to hell. Start a Fed fund simular to the AK.fund which which would send a check to all with a valid S.S. number. Have chks expire in 90 days, not reportable income, not taxable, if you don’t want it let the chk. expire. Do it just because we can do it and let the rest of the world go to hell, and those who don’t like it in this Nation put there money where their mouth is.
