Who Is James Lee?
FOX NY ^ | 9.01.10 | LUKE FUNK

Posted on 09/01/2010 12:23:30 PM PDT by rface

MYFOXNY.COM - James J. Lee, 43, has run a one-man protest against the Discovery Channel. He is the man who has been named as the suspect who is believed to have taken at least one hostage at the company's suburban Washington, D.C. headquarters.

He operates the Web site savetheplanetprotest.com . The site contains a list of demands for changes at the channel.

It starts with the line, "The Discovery Channel MUST broadcast to the world their commitment to save the planet and to do the following IMMEDIATELY:"

Lee has also conducted protests outside of the Discovery Channel headquarters building in Silver Spring, Md. and was reportedly arrested in February 2008 in connection with a week-long protest he had planned for February 15-23, 2008.

Lee's main complaint, according to his site, was that the network claims to show "Environmental Programs" but their shows cause more harm than good. He cited shows like "Cash Cab" and Dirty Jobs". He claims they serve as diversions to keep the focus off of what he considers important issues such as global warming and animal extinction.

James Lee has a MySpace page . He says that he's 5'11" tall and from Hawaii. He described himself as an atheist who did not want children in his profile.

His last post at 10:06 AM Jan 22, 2008 said, "Lee says: It's time for REVOLUTION!!!"

How dare he defame “Cash Cab”, one of the greatest forces for good in the known universe! Host Ben Bailey is worshipped as a god in many countries.

Clearly, its time that Discovery call in the big guns and have Billy the Exterminator handle this situation. “Billy, this is your Mom, the Discovery folks have a squirrel infestation, can you make it over there? They are very upset?”

Well, at least, he should be against turning lights off on the so-called earth day. Since it encourages procreative activities...

Anyway, lock him up in a room and give him 8-10 hours straight of Gore talking - daily.

He cited shows like "Cash Cab" and Dirty Jobs".

1. The Discovery Channel is a business. It cannot just show "what it wants"; it must show a combination of programs that will provide the means (revenue) with which IT CAN SHOW some of "what it wants".

2. While I agree that to any extent to which the Discovery Channel may not live up to some environmental mission it publicly gave itself (if it ever really did), it has no obligation, as a business, to model that mission on any design but its own.

3. Also, while I agree that to any extent to which the Discovery Channel may not live up to some environmental mission it publicly gave itself (if it ever really did), my own view of that failure is that it presents too much junk science, and too much speculation, along the lines that actually lean towards the sentiments of Mr. Lee - apparently just not as often as Mr. Lee would like. While I long ago quit watching the Discovery channel (or the History channel) to satisfy any need for accurate knowledge in science or history, the "Cash Cab" show is ONE Discovery Channel show I do watch - occasionally. It's like a short-sequenced "Jeopardy on-the-run" show, and at least it's contestants are more "man on the street" common citizens than the hand-picked ones on ABC's Jeopardy.

This guy is nuts! What was he thinking? If he had just applied at MSNBC they would of given him his own prime time show.
