Even after watching her preferred candidate surprisingly triumph in Alaskas Senate race, Sarah Palins home state is no sure thing for the former governor as she trails former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in a hypothetical 2012 matchup, according to a new poll.
Only 17 percent of the 805 Alaska Republicans surveyed by Public Policy Polling said they would back Palin in a 2012 GOP primary, the same percentage who voiced support for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Romney led the field, garnering 20 percent.
Fortunately for Sarah Palin, Alaska decides few convention delegates, and coming more than a month after Super Tuesday, she may not survive the race to be embarrassed on her home turf, said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has the support of 16 percent of Alaska Republicans, placing him in fourth.
Ten percent of those surveyed said they would support Texas Rep. Ron Paul, and 20 percent were either undecided or would back another candidate not listed in the poll.
The survey was conducted Aug. 27-28 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Palin would be well advised to stick to tweeting and speeches.
I wonder if these “Republicans” polled voted for Miller? ... or were they ‘old money, establishment’ Republican party hacks?
Isn’t Public Policy Polling a lib polling organization?
The choices on t his list suck: Needs more cowbell in:
Paul Ryan
John Thune
DeMint
Rick Santorum (not perfect but 10X better than Myth/Huck)
Michelle Bachmann
This is hard to believe, after the Palin-supported candidate, Joe Miller, has just won the Republican Senate nomination....grabbed it from the clutching claws of the Murkowski clan!
You DESERVE a Romney president....
Remember, this is a Politico article. I smell disinformation here. How could Romney poll with his own HCR anchor around his ankles?
According to Wikipedia:
Public Policy Polling (PPP) is an American, Progressive, and Democratic Party-affiliated polling firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina.[1][2][3] PPP was founded in 2001 by businessman and Democratic pollster Dean Debnam, the firm’s current president and chief executive officer.
So we know it’s JournoList aproved data.
Politico ALWAYS rags on Sarah. Let the liberals whine - no one is listening - but I enjoy seeing them squirm.
GO JOE MILLER!
GO SARAH!
First, I don’t believe this poll, regardless of my feelings on who should be the next president. Not that many people even know who Romney is this far out. Name recognition drives polling 2 years out, and there is no way he would score that high right now.
Secondly, as a movement, we HAVE to prevent Romney from being our candidate. I voted for him in the FL primary last time because FL was the last stand against McCain. I actually liked him out of the the realistic candidates at that stage in the race to run against Obama. Today, he is a sure disaster for us, even if he ended up winning. His continued backing of the failed MA health care system is a sure sign that we will be stuck permanently with Obamacare. 2012 is our last chance to end this before it begins. Beginning in 2014, the discussion will no longer be to repeal and replace. It will be a battle between the parties on who can FIX it.
Romney is severely wounded with his stance on health care, much as McCain was in 2012 on tax cuts. Both were on record supporting the Obama positions. He simply cannot be our candidate.
Even Jesus was not respected in his home town.
Matthew 6:
3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.
The difference of 3%, WHATEVER! Man these folks have 7 lives.
Good Afternoon! Always can count on you to lift the lid!
1. Poll is within the margin of error of 3.5 percent.
2. Romney, Palin, Huckabee, and Gingrich all have roughly the same amount of support
Romney 20
Palin 17
Huckab 17
Ginric 16
The conservatives have far more support than the Murkowski establishment in Alaska. And people will jump on the winner, Palin in the end.
The “only Sarah can beat flipper” crowd can take a hike. If a dork like McCain can beat him like a bongo, so can lots of folks.
Yeah something stinks about this...
