You are exactly right. The Republicans need to start getting out a message about what they will do. Newt Gingrich is not a particularly nice guy, but he is smart. His Contract with America in 1994 was political genius at work. Running on the platform that “We ain’t Dems” is not enough; we need to say what we will do and we do not need to over-promise. For instance, saying that the Republicans will repeal Obamacare is an empty promise. It is mathematically impossible for the Republicans to end up with 60 seats in the Senate, let alone get enough seats to override a certain Obama veto. We can promise that we will de-fund Obamacare and that we will vote to repeal Obamacare every chance we get, but we cannot repeal it.
It worries me that the Republicans have not put out a platform of specific actions that they will take on any number of issues. Perhaps that is coming, but I have not seen it yet.
