Visalia, Calif. A Mormon church official was shot dead between services on Sunday, and less than an hour later, the man suspected of the crime also died after a shootout with police.
Clay Sannar, 42, a lay bishop with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Visalia, southeast of Fresno, died after being shot in his office, said Visalia police chief Colleen Mestas.
Soon after the first shooting, a caller identified himself to police as the shooter. Police responded, and there was a confrontation with several shots exchanged, said Mestas.
The suspect was hit multiple times. He was taken to nearby Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified yet. No officers were injured, Mestas said.
Tulare County sheriffs deputies are taking over the investigation of the shootout involving the police officers. The sheriffs department did not immediately return calls for comment.
Visalia police continue to investigate Sannars shooting, but have not identified a motive.

That man of faith was murdered by another mormon....I don't think anyone was "bashing" the mormon bishop. Please point those posts out for me.
If saying something dumb on an open forum is a sin, I say let he among you who is without sin cast the first stone. As for me, I will not be throwing any at all.
Obviously you know nothing about context...within Scripture.
Frankly DU...you sound like someone that just wants to sweep things under the rug. Reminds me of lib talking heads..........
The parsing, dancing, dodging, avoiding, etc. going on in this thread has been a spectacle to behold.
The wreckage left behind by the mormons and their “defenders” is plain for all to see, yet they have gone into hiding, like someone turned on the kitchen light.
None have the courage or the moral fortitude to stand up and say “that was wrong and unacceptable”. But then again, I’m assuming they can even comprehend that they were wrong. Or they may be thinking that it was all “justified” as one did earlier.
No accountability, no responsibility. Still circling the wagons to protect their own. Not even disagreeing with the comments, just dismissing them as “not my responsibility”.
A clear demonstration of “tribal mentality”.
Since my first post was deleted with no response as to why...I am trying again.
I read through this entire thread and frankly I am appalled at the behavior of the LDS. As SZ stated, most (if not all) of us would have given our condolences, yet the LDS started off right away likening us to this killer.
LL - Since you responded, I am stating that I stand by my post.
Reno - bye buddy
Saundra - just because someone leaves the LDS does not make them mentally ill.
Resty - I see you got your new word from SLC for the month
To the rest of the LDS/LDS defenders. I am sick and tired of being accused of hating Mormons, of being a bigot and the like, but comments likening us to this killer is beyond the pale. No Christian would ever condone killing and NO FLYING INMAN has EVER condoned killing Mormons. To state or imply such is not only wrong but tacky. Frankly, the implication that we are for murder or applaud this kilers actions is disgusting.
For those who think we are ‘closed minded bigots’ let me remind you that if you are too open minded your brains might fall out. I will not compromise my faith to pretend to get along with a group that insults my Savior. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN, EVER.
To the FI’s, you handled this thread well and with good decorum. I applaud you.
Now I am off for a weekend retreat with my brothers and sisters in Christ.
Resty - I see you got your new word from SLC for the month

Sad.......

The whole 'religion' is based on that!

That’s ok, Resty. I still love you.
you never know who is behind these cyber wall many maybe SSA
because many times are lacking in shame and conscience for the things they say...
The spirit of the Lord many times surely is not present or they would not say some of the stuff they say for the Spirit of the Lord would still their tongue
To LDS members and defenders:
It is absolutely appalling, the commentary I have read on this thread.
You, as adults and humans, should take a moment of introspect and find shame.
I know of know one who sanction, condone or encourage the murder of another human being.
Yet, you find some uniqueness in the death of member of your faith and it seems in some weird way you feel superior for the commentary.
It is actually sick, base and I cannot even bring myself to say juvenile.
In fact, it is a sad commentary that your thin veneer of humanity and opaque skin would ever find parity in debate between our two faiths and a collective imprimatur for this evil man.
In some sense it seems you are projecting your sorrow and looking for blame.
Mr. Clay Sannar was an innocent man who never met his killer and nothing could be sadder than to have his murderer act out his pain and aggression against a total stranger.
Moreover, Mr. Sannar’s family will not wake up in the morning looking for his love and leadership. They can never hold him again.
Birthdays, holidays, graduations, etc. will be left with an empty hole where he would have surely filled.
There was only one person responsible for Mr. Sannars death and he was put down like dog.
Now that is as close to sanctioning the death of another person you will find and as it should be.
hose guys are losers and for some weird reason thin skinned.
I could never condone or sanction this chumps actions. No one I know would approve of murder.
I hope he gets put down like a dog.
Which I believe he was.
lds delusion placemarker
May your bloated self fine refuge in a safety pin
Well said.
We can see that YOURS is still wagging, despite the stuff you say.
