President Barack Obama dismissed a recent poll showing that a third of Americans don’t know he’s a Christian – and blamed an online campaign of misinformation by his conservative enemies for perpetuating the myth that he’s a Muslim.
“I can’t spend all of my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead,” Obama told NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, sitting under a tent in a rain-soaked New Orleans, where he commemorated the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
“The facts are the facts. We went through some of this during the campaign — there is a mechanism, a network of misinformation that in a new media era can get churned out there constantly,” said a visibly annoyed Obama, referring to “birthers,” who have waged a guerilla campaign questioning the validity of his Hawaiian birth certificate.
“I will always put my money on the American people, and I’m not going to be worried too much about what rumors are floating around there.”
A stunning 18 percent of Americans identify Obama as Muslim, according to a Pew poll released earlier this month. Only a third identified Obama, who speaks passionately about his faith in his autobiography, as Christian.

Some do list religion of the parents. Circa 1940's, other countries might do the same.
Interesting! What jurisdiction is it that includes the religion of the parents on a birth certificate?
The Hawaii standard long form used in 1961 has no fields on it for religion.

Precisely! His forehead remark is insipid. Sure he knows “my birth certificate” is under seal. That COLB image will not do. No one knows or will say where the mysterious image came from. Its provenance has never been established. And it might very well be a forgery.
Also, he said “my muslim faith” and “muslim call to prayer is the prettiest sound on earth.” Not ONE single Christian or Jew or Buddhist I know has ever said those things. Not one.
Yes, it is really hard to understand how 1/5 of Americans could possibly think he is a muzzie, isn’t it?
That is my understanding of older certerficates of live birth, especially where the info was derived from births in religion based hospitals. I have no direct evidence of that as I have never had the opportunity or reason to review any.
0bama also mentioned that the ground-zero mosque was important to him because the President is required to enforce the Constitution. Since when? The Supreme Court is responsible for that!
