- Officials still investigating cause of fire that destroyed voting devices -

A day after a fire destroyed virtually all of Harris County's electronic voting gear, officials were still determining the cause of the warehouse blaze and furiously exploring ways to accommodate voters come early November.

Houston's fire marshal's office hasn't made a ruling on whether Friday's early-morning fire was accidental or deliberately set, said Harris County Clerk Beverly Kaufman, who hopes to hear something on the cause early this week.

"It would break my heart to think someone would do something like this to the election process," she said, adding that she was unaware of anyone who might have had a motive to burn down the building.

Houston Fire Department officials did not return phone calls on Saturday.

Wow. Look at this quote by one of the members of the Houston city council on the red light camera vote:

“Legality challenged

“Several camera supporters on council disagreed, saying the proposal was “illegal” because it circumvented rules in the city charter that dictate that efforts to overturn city ordinances through referendum must be concluded within 30 days of a law taking effect. Since the red light camera ordinance was passed in 2004, some council members said, the petition was too late.

“Items like this don’t belong in the city charter,” said Councilwoman Anne Clutterbuck, who led the fight against the amendment. “Otherwise, we would be like California. ... Anything we vote on at this table could be overturned by petition.”

Can’t be having city council votes overturned by the voters, can they? /s

Yeah, I watched the city council meeting. Anne was a real piece of work. She tried every dirty trick she could to stop a vote and the city attorney soundly refuted every point. The rules and laws she 'misinterpreted' were so clear, that she is either a crook or stupid. She was working so hard to prevent democracy with regard to the camera vote that I almost wonder if she is being paid off by someone.

Something stinks to high heaven....

So... now that the machines are unusable, they will have to resort to MAIL IN VOTING.

Nothing could ‘go wrong’ there. (/s)

I have noticed there seems to be morning wave and an evening wave of threads on the same subject.

You should have posted a link to your thread.

SEIU thugs destroying evidence that may have been preprogramed on the machines?

Possible. More likely they just want to force everyone to use MAIL IN BALLOTS. Much easier for them to cheat than trying to rig the machines or sending in the Black Panthers (there are only 7 of them).

Burning the voting machines in a democrat strong hold like Houston helps the Texas democrats how?

Many of these government-dependent, democrats don't actually go to vote, because they have to stand in line, the handicap parking is full with real handicap voters, and they might miss Oprah.

Having THEM be able to use a MAIL IN BALLOT to vote would almost ENSURE more of them voting.

I hope the registrar has people looking for this....

He can probably find a bunch of former SEIU employees who would be happy to help out.
