(CNN) NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous, speaking at the "Reclaim the Dream" rally Saturday, castigated the message of the Glenn Beck rally across town in Washington.
"For a year and a half, we've been subjected to small hearts and small minds on our small screens," he said, referring to conservative ideas on media. Beck is a conservative talk show host, with a program on Fox News as well as several radio programs.

I was gonna say—he’s just Jealous!
>>castigated the message of the Glenn Beck rally across town in Washington
I think Beck outmaneuvered the left on this one. They all came out against his message and then he delivered a sermon on getting right with God, and sacrificing now to save the future.
Oh wait...the left is against all that too!
I don’t if he scratched his butt. I have no respect for any liberal. It is time to take back America.
Maybe the age of the crowd is because older blacks remember when the NAACP was actually fighting for a legislative agenda, and fighting for rights denied them. The NAACP actually had a realistic agenda and policy positions at one time.
Today’s younger blacks do not have any rights denied them, and to young people today, anything that happened before 1995 is ancient history.
And the bitter unspoken truth is, that Dr. King would be rolling in his grave at the prominence of gang culture, illigitimacy, high numbers of school dropouts, etc. which we see in the black community today. These problems have always been around, but have gotten to critical mass in the past 20 to 30 years.
And the bitter upspoken truth is that if you have babies as a teenager out of wedlock or get involved with youth gangs, you are making bad life choices which will negatively impact your life. And those choices have nothing to do with racism. Plenty of white kids get in trouble like this too. And they too live troubled lives due to their bad choices, not only black young people.
While I can agree to a point with someone at Sharpton’s rally who spoke of upgrading education and schools, there too, racism is not at fault. So many inner city schools have black teachers, black principals, are run by majority black school boards, who in turn are overseen by black city council members and black mayors in many cities. Clearly there are problems unrelated to racism when schools run by blacks have such grave problems.
“A Mind Is a Terrible Thing To Waste”.
I heard that all the time while growing up. It was the mantra for the plea for donations for THE NEGRO COLLEGE FUND !!!!! Those ads were squarely placed at the wallets of WHITES.
Whites were not allowed to go to these schools, & as far as I know, they still are excluded today.
The two-faced hypocracy of the American Negro in today’s world is beyond any words I have.
Yeah...well, now we know who the real racists are!
Talk about polarizing. It is clear where the polarization is rooted. America was treated to today's live, first hand views of these events and able to make instant comparisons.
One rally was about God, love, tolerance, brotherhood, unity, Faith, Hope, and Charity, and Christian beliefs that are the foundation of our country. Beck's speakers even sang of Unity.
The other rally, across town, was led by angrily shouting speakers, expressing words of hate and resentfulness, demands for rights and hurtful recollections of times that were unpleasant and bitter. It was as though the speakers wanted people to get upset all over again and live with hurt, rather than love. They used the word "God Bless" and then went on to talk with words that can only be described as inspired by the devil.
All Americans are getting very tired of this type of antagonism and would like to overcome the bad memories and repair racial relations. But people like Sharpton just won't let it happen and keep fueling the flames of jealousy and resentment. There seems to be no appreciation from people like Sharpton, therefore the movement for getting what they want, what they should have, and what the majority of Americans want them to have, is stagnant. No one keeps giving to the dog who bites the hand that feeds them.
He’s Jealous of Beck for Dr. Alveda King’s participation in 828! Wouldn’t she have been a plumb for Jealous’ shindig?
The most racist people in America today are black. Black “rights” groups are not the embodiment of King’s message and the message much better fits Beck than them.
Nice contrast. No reasonable observer can be confused about which side harbors “haters.”
..while the rest of us have been subjected to big government, big brother, big taxes, big spending, and a big failure of an economic recovery.
If there was ever a man whose name fit him like it was tailor-made, it’s THAT guy!
To me the NAACP has lost its usefulness.
Racism is Sharpton’s bread and butter.
They are scared the pie makers..who were at the Beck rally will not make them any more pie.
I listened to Sharpton on C-span radio after the Beck event. The people( mostly black) calling in to C-Span were just hateful; full of rage against Beck and Palin.
It was hard to listen to.
