Today, Eric Wargotz M.D., a candidate for the United States Senate, called on Congress and the President to immediately make "Ground Zero" a National Historic Site. This new proposal from Commissioner Wargotz comes on the heels of President Obama's remarks supporting a mosque being built at "Ground Zero" in New York City.
"Ground Zero is a sacred site. For a mosque to be created at "Ground Zero" is a travesty and must be stopped. The families of those killed on September 11th should not be forced to endure the hardship a mosque at that location would create." Wargotz said.
The President and Congress can turn "Ground Zero" insto a National Historic Site or a National Park. Just like Gettysburg, the National Mall in DC, and the USS Arizona site in Pearl Harbor, Ground Zero could become a National Historic Site. Under Wargotz's plan, the National Park Service would oversee all actions at "Ground Zero." The National Park Service would be instructed to ban the creation of any new religious buildings inside the National Historic Site.
"While not all Muslims are responsible for what occurred on September 11th, those who were would view the creation of a mosque at "Ground Zero" as a victory. This mosque would be used by Islamic radicals as a recruitment tool. This must be stopped." Wargotz added.

I think this sounds like a good idea. Hopefully, Maryland voters will like this enough to elect Eric Wargotz to the U.S. Senate.
I wonder if the MSM/DEMS/LIBS/OBAMA would have a problem if the mosque sight should rather be a sight for a memorial to the victims of 9/11 ?
Could this be a sign of intelligent life?
That sounds like a great idea to me. I think they would, but they might keep it to themselves because of the election.
I was appalled when the talk started, almost after 9/11, about rebuilding. To me, it's equivalent to if the Germans built a shopping center at a concentration camp.
Of course, it should be a national historic site. It's just that the idea is tainted because money-grabbing NYC didn't want to give up the valuable real estate, until the inconvenience of it becoming something distasteful to them. For that reason, I'm leaning toward thinking that mosque should go forward, as a living memorial to what NYC greed has accomplished.
Any loyal, honorable, America-loving President would do this; and so it is; we can know - and painfully so; and with unequivical certainty - that Obama will NEVER go there.
Very good point and 'question'. (It would include of course; the 'rememberance' of Muslims too; as we are reminded - often in this debate - that 'Muslims, too' lost their lives that day.
What could be more fitting. Oh, this is all to fair and reasonable!
(The outrage of it all. We must rid outselves of these vermin politicians who refuse to 'see'; and for reasons 'of their own' rather than on behalf of their Constituency and by association; the Country they are supposed to be serving...)
I sent a suggestion for this to my senatorial candidate and the chairman of the state party. Its the right thing to do. It is our national memorial, not moslems.
Not to put too fine a point on the matter, but the proposed site of the Islamic Ideological Warfare Center (my title), which site I oppose being used for this purpose, is not the site of the former Twin Towers (i.e., Ground Zero), but several blocks distant, as I understand.
The real purpose of this Islamic institution, along with its funding sources, remain far too much in a fog of misinformation and disinformation, IMO. But why should we expect other than that? What’s the name of the doctrine that approves of lying to further the interests of Islam? Taquiyah???
That’s what we do, make and move money. That’s the way that area of NYC has been since the Dutch traded shares under the Buttonwood trees. That’s what a significant portion of the people that died that day did for a living. Were they greedy too? You want the world financial capital relocated to the Arab Emirates? Turn Lower Manhattan into a park and Osama wins.
There was a terrorist attack on Wall Street in 1920 that killed 20 people. You can still see the blast marks on the walls at 23 Wall Street if your ever in the area.
Fraunces Tavern on Pearl Street was blown up by Puerto Rican terrorists in 1975. They killed 4 people.
We honor the dead by continuing on.
That's the contradiction. If we "continue on" as the US, the mosque can be built, just as much as a synogogue or church could be built. You can't have it both ways.
It's a shame restrictions hadn't been put on what could be built in a decided-upon radius from the site before this came up.
Maryland PING!
That’s just what we need in NY, more government restrictions.
Not at all. Those who don't want the mosque are asking for an un-American government restriction. There should've been some kind of park or something, much like Pearl Harbor and other commemorative sites all over the country. Instead, NYC is saying there can be commercial property right where the attack occured but they want to decide what can and can't be built a few blocks away.
