Lisa Murkowski, the Alaska Senator who apparently lost her GOP primary in a shocking upset to Tea Party candidate Joe Miller, could be weighing a fall campaign on a third-party line.
Final results from Election Day voting show Ms. Murkowski down by 1,668 votes. Many of the absentees left to be counted are from military voters, who probably lean to Mr. Miller. Her chances of making up the necessary votes are slim.
But the Daily Beast reports that the Murkowski camp is weighing the options of running on a minor-party line or as a write-in.
"We are going to take a look at them and see whether the option is there or not, but it's a decision she (Murkowski) has to make," a source close to the Murkowski campaign said. The senator herself calls such talk "premature."
Since the deadline for running as an independent has passed in Alaska, the only ballot line open to the senator would be Libertarian. David Haase, the Libertarian Party Senate nominee, told the Anchorage Daily News he's willing to listen to any proposal. Scott Kohlass, the state chair of the Libertarian Party, claims "there's a chance" the party could replace Mr. Haase with the GOP Senator. But such a move would likely be very unpopular with the party's antigovernment members. Ms. Murkowski's moderate voting record was the major reason Mr. Miller was able to beat her running as a "Constitutional conservative" in the primary.

The lust for power is strong in in this one.
What we need in America...is a political party called “The Loser Party”. We need a chairman, about a dozen strategy guys (mostly losers), and a couple million in cash to help guys who lose their primary episodes but want to continue on.
Under the Loser Party....anything would be possible. We’d even start a new trend....losing just means round two.
After the election, there needs to be a thorough, top-to-bottom housecleaning of the staff at the RNC, RSCC and all other bureaucratic entities connected iwth the Republican Party. The outrage of their legal counsel advising Murkowski on how to trump the victor of the primary reminds me of AMA’s support for the health care bill, which is contrary to the interests of the doctors they supposedly represent. Apparently, the primary goal in such organizations, including the AMA and RNC, diverts to portecting the bureaucratic interests of the organization and its staff and NOT the people and issues they are supposed to represent.
I’m hoping that all this third-party, write-in talk is just desperate staffers who are paranoid at losing their own meal ticket. If Murkowski does try to jump to the Libertarian ticket, it would be undeniable proof that she is nothing but a political whore of the worst sort.
God save us from lifetime (and right of heredity) politicians.

The Republican PARTY organization is useless to the constituents. They seem to believe they exist to serve the folks in power.
Yep. I stopped giving to either of them after the NY23 race last year. I’ll support individual candidates but will not support these orgs. Your AMA analogy is a good one.
I think its about time, the party thought about instituting legal agreements on people running for their primaries along the lines of “if you are in an primary for the republican party ticket, if you are not selected, you cannot challenge the winner of that primary for that election seat under any other means, no 3rd run, no write in, no switching party.
Just like some do when they sign contracts upon leaving a company so they cant work for opposition for a period of time.
They need to be able to enforce the will of the party voters.

aah but its all about the influence peddling you see, Murkowski probably owes quite a few favours out there in Alaska, if she loses, she can’t follow through on them and whatever she was up to soon comes to light, career politicians are like white collar criminals, you never catch what they are doing when they are doing it, only when they stop, does anyone notice what they’ve been up to and the stuffs missing.

It would also prove the Libertarian Party to be a party of frauds, Joe Miller is far more libertarian in his politics but they’d be willing to take any one just for a shot at getting a libertarian in the senate.

The Murks have been political whores for 40 consecutive years. There is no shame, they are quite proud of their history of debauchery.

I couldn’t give a flyin’ flip what the “reasons” are. They, just like the Zero administration are complicit in securing the “Ruling Class” irregardless what the constituents think.
