Sen. John McCain acknowledged his primary rivals during his victory speech after winning Tuesday's Arizona Republican primary, but not warmly.
It took until the sixth paragraph of his acceptance speech, and his remarks notably mentioned his closest rival, J.D. Hayworth, last.
"This was a tough, hard-fought primary, and my opponents, Jim Deakin and Congressman Hayworth, and their families and supporters, deserve credit for having the courage to enter the arena, and give so much of themselves to the candidate they believed in," McCain said. "I wish them well in the future."
Deakin was taking a wild stab at public office, whereas Hayworth was a six-term congressman before losing to Rep. Harry Mitchell (D-Ariz.) in 2006.
Hayworth finished Tuesday with more than 30 percent of the vote a bloc unlikely to warm to McCain. Hayworth was just as cold toward the senator in his concession speech.
"Elections are clarifying moments," he said after conceding to McCain.
Hayworth said voters determined McCain was a "better custodian of their goals and desires."
Jeers broke out among the crowd. "Let's understand we have to move forward," he said. "[O]ur campaign comes to an end." He added, "The cause endures. It is a fight worth having."
Hayworth has said he'll support the Arizona Republican ticket but not McCain personally.
I've come to the realization that the Party Label of some Republicans doesn't stand for anything in their voting.
You vote for what you think is a counter-issue representative, and you get a Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Lindsay Graham, George Voinovich, John McCain, etc., that votes with the Democrats when it comes down to the wire. A slim Majority means no progress on conservative issues, so long as RINO's keep getting elected simply because there is an "R" next to their name.
Think about it.
At least if the Democrat wins, you don't have false hope of an (R) voting with the conservative values when you need him(her).....
EXACTLY!
Does anyone not think McCain will return to his old ways?
Republicans, independents and conservative demorats support Rubio. Rubio, in the latest poll, has an 8 point lead over Crist and double digit over Meek. With Meek winning, the demorats who may have voted for Crist, due to their dislike for Greene, will tow the party line and support Meek. Thus eliminating the wedge issue Crist was hoping for in his run as a party traitor.
Also it has been hypothesized that Obamai’s Islamic slant has turned the Jewish population off, relating to demorats, and a good portion will vote for Rubio.
I’ll second that; and, I’ll say that, if I were JD, I wouldn’t support the SOB either. I predict McCain will change parties within the first two years of his next term, if not sooner; and, his personal buttboy, Pansy Graham, will follow him making it very difficult for Conservatives in the Senate to change this sh-t sandwich we have now.
He won’t change parties - this is where he is more effective for his friends across the aisle.
...
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
...
But your premise is false.
That's not why RINOs get elected.
Anyone who hopes McCain loses in November is a moron.
I hate McCain but I must vote for him....the damn country is at stake. WHAT THE HELL IS WITH YOU PEOPLE. HAVE YOU NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT'S GOING ON IN THIS COUNTRY ?
Oh goodness, I hope your wrong but could so see it.
Your sentiment is outdone only by your tagline.
He’ll wait until after the election. In his acceptance he’ll give a shout out to barry and tell AZ voters how great he is.
This is a lie. In his concession speech(oddly enough that part was left out of this article)JD said that the time for derision was over and it was time to support the Republican candidate. He said this after the crowd started jeering McCain. Why this writer tries to make JD sound like an a**hat is not to much of a mystery, my opinion that the article is written to make JD look like just as big a jerk as McCain when it comes to his Republican opponents.
TOO BAD! DOWN WITH McCain!!
I just don’t appreciate people pissin’ on my leg and telling me it’s raining. McCain is a fraud. Having him in the Senate is no different than having any other DemocRAT in the seat.
He will immediately start pushing amnesty, either right after the election or just before(in order to bring in the illegal vote), but he will go right back to his left wing ways.
So, don't be too harsh on these guys because they know it will not mean dick one way or another. Personally, I would vote for him, as much as I dislike the guy, because I just couldn't bring myself to vote for a Democrat.
I hope you’re happy with yourself, you fool. I pray you don’t live in this state.
McJuan has the leftwing Arizona Republic on his side. The liberals in Arizona love him. He’s a shoe in whether I vote for him or not. His opponent is a glutton for punishment and a moron.
