The apparent anti-Muslim assault on a New York city cabbie by a man shouting Assalamu Alaikum. Consider this a checkpoint" produced an immediate round of recriminations over its connection to opposition to a New York Islamic Center and an apparent rising tide of Islamophobia.
But as often at the intersection of politics and violent crime, the story doesn't appear to fit any easy stereotype: The alleged assailant, Michael Enright, is according to his Facebook profile and the website of the left-leaning media organization Intersections International a student at the School of Visual Arts and a volunteer for Intersections, which recently produced a statement of support for the Park51 project and is funded by the mainstream, liberal Collegiate Church of New York.
Intersections did not respond to two messages, and the group does not appear to be picking up the phone. Enright did not respond to a message through his Facebook account.
Looks more and more like an attempted Reichstag Fire moment. The Left is showing its true colors, IMHO, going from hoaxes that don’t physically injure people to picking out this poor, innocent Muslim and attacking him just so they can frame those of us who don’t want to see an Islamofascist Victory Mosque and Terror Organizing Center at Ground Zero.
It’s like the referee wearing the jersey of the opposing team under his uniform!
It creeps me out! And it’s getting worse.
Thanks! I did a search but I guess I’m search challanged!
You mean it's not a bigoted Republican???? Shocker!
>> Article: “the story doesn’t appear to fit any easy stereotype: The alleged assailant [is] of the left-leaning media organization...”
Yeah, because we all know how peaceful and innocent the Left is, and how violent the Right is. /s
Prediction- this PRO-mosque organization staged this whole thing and the cabbie was in on it
One suspect in Carnahan office attack not a Tea Party activist after all
Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-MO) confirmed in a press conference yesterday that the suspect in an alleged arson at Carnahans campaign office is a former paid campaign worker named Chris Powers.
Powers has not been charged in the arson case. In a phone interview this morning with TPMmuckraker, Powers denied having any involvement with what local reports have described as a fire bombing.
Im innocent, Powers said. I was at home when Congressman Carnahans office was fired on. I have nothing to do with it.
As several blogs have reported, Powers wrote a reader blog at TPMCafe under the name Ripper McCord. (Any TPM reader can create a blog and comment on the site, and Powers is not affiliated with TPM.)
