...and there is some doubt as to whether this idea is truly based on SCRIPTURAL teaching. :(

Romans 5:8 - God demonstrated His love for us in that WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS, Christ died for us (empahasis added).

Scriptural admonitions regarding love and hate include:
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.
Love them that hate you and pray for them that spitefully use you.
As I have loved you, so you should love one another.
Love your enemies.

So, even though the phrase "love the sinner, hate the sin" is not scriptural in origin, the PRINCIPLE of despising the sin, rejecting the sin, refusing to condone the sin, all while extending the Love of God to the sinner can hardly be called unscriptural.
