I think what’s at stake is the money involved in supplying the US with drugs. Out of curiosity, I wonder what would happen to Mexico if a legalized cultivation-for-personal-use law went into effect here, even with a two or three year sunset provision. Seems like it would knock the cartels for a loop, and free up law enforcement to crack down on meth and coke.
Misrepresentation is a form of lying. That Mexico allows some consumer items our US Federales ban — specifically only small amounts of marijuan, for larger amounts are still illegal in Mexico — misrepresents why this violence is happening.
Underground money fuels this violence. Big underground money arising out of the smuggling of highly desirable consumer goods that are banned in the US.
