Democrats planned a fight on two fronts against a U.S. judge's ruling halting federal support for embryonic stem-cell research, filing a legal appeal and weighing legislation to restore the funding.
The Justice Department said Tuesday that it would appeal the preliminary injunction issued by Judge Royce Lamberth, which put tens of millions of dollars in grants into legal limbo.
On Capitol Hill, leading backers of the research said they were exploring ways to maintain government support. Sen. Tom Harkin (D., Iowa) called a hearing for Sept. 16, shortly after Congress returns from its summer break, and House leaders discussed strategy.
The ruling surprised researchers and political operatives alike and resurrected the issue ahead of volatile fall elections. The issue was already popping up in a few congressional races, and was likely to emerge in other contests if Democrats push it onto their September agenda.

When did this become an issue for the justice department to be involved in? This is clearly taking sides in a political issue.
What’s next, suing me for voting republican?
LOL CC...in this administration, morality = politics. All of us on FR are very immoral people in the eyes of the left because we don’t believe in their orthodoxy.
I give it an even chance that Obama tells DoJ to back off the case. After all, does he really want to get the courts examining the limits of EO’s? Look for them to fix the legislation during the lame duck session instead.
The lame duck session if it even happens might not be so easy as some people think. There are several Democrat senators appointed to fill vacancies who are going to lose their races. The winners of those special elections start serving as soon as their state secretaries of state certify their elections not when the next congress is sworn in. Additional Republican senators would make it much easier to shut down a lame duck session.
There is nothing immoral about doing ADULT Stem Cell Research.
This is all about EMBRYONIC Stem Cell Research.
One article, dated in 2006 and is way of date, showed 70 successful applications of ADULT Stem Cells and 0 (as ZERO-bama) successes for EMBRYONIC Stem Cell.
The only thing that EMBRYONIC Stem Cell has proven to do is kill itty-bitty babies
Court Blocks New Federal Funding for Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Because of that thread, I did some research on Successes for Embryonic Stem Cell Research
The AP had an article (below):
Adult stem cell research far ahead of embryonic
In that article, it was stated the known benefits (not successes) of Embryonic Stem Cells were the following:
Paying for Lab ToolsThere is nothing from this liberal-biased AP Article of any possibility of successes with Embryonic Stem Cell in the near future..
Learning the Roots of Disease
screening potential drugs
The article talks about some of the Adult Stem Cell successes -- such as a man was able to avoid foot amputation because of this Adult Stem Cell Research.
In the past, people with nerve damage have had success in repairing nerve damage thanks to Adult Stem Cell Research.
In that vein, nerve cells from the nose have been used to re-generate nerves in damaged areas. I believe this technique has even been able to restore sight.
But again, the only successes are the Adult Stem Cells. The source of such cells are often in the patients own body. We all have Adult Stem Cells in our body -- no matter what age we are.
Finally, this is All About the Money -- productive research programs are fighting for dollars might be flushed down the toilet by Embryonic Stem Cells.
What a waste!
