McALLEN The toll booths on the Mexican side of the international bridges have stopped accepting U.S. currency and are only taking pesos.
According to an official the measure is only temporarily and due to a conflict between the Mexican Agency of Bridges and Roads and the Bank where it makes its deposits in dollars.
To fight money laundering the Mexican Government prohibits banks to take deposits for more than $7,000 per month. CAPUFE deposits an average of $20,000 per day.
"We are working in an exception for this government agency," Jorge Espino Ascanio, Delegate of CAPUFE in Reynosa, said in Spanish.
The measure upset people Monday, who found out about the change only after being in line for some time and having to turn around to get the pesos.
The Nuevo Progreso Chamber of Commerce sent an employee to the bridge to assist the people with no Mexican currency, but only temporarily.
The Mexican toll is 24 pesos per vehicle, and 3 pesos per pedestrian. At 12.89 pesos to the dollar, the vehicle toll is about $1.86.
Don’t go to Mexico. Problem solved.
Dont go to Mexico. Problem solved.

And if you’re already in Mexico. Stay in Mexico. Problem solved X 2.
Seal the border, deport the Illegals, end NAFTA....
Otherwise, you keep getting all this stupid stuff. Who the heck wants Mexican Pesos anyway.....
I remember riding a bus in mexico. The peso is so worthless that they had a pile of centavos in the front window. The peso was only worth about 15 cents at the time so the centavo must have been worth about a tenth of a penny.
What - they don’t take EZ Pass?
OK - FC Pasar :)
As if I needed yet *another* good reason to avoid Mexico like the plague (which, curiously enough, you can contract very easily there).
