Does she not have access to an iron and an ironing board?
Correction: "preserved for prosterity." Memo to self... when commenting on someone else's typos, don't forget to spell check!
Ding ding ding.............we have a winner!
Halfway through his Vineyard vacation, President Obama has turned to Island links and basketball courts for his downtime, while the operation of the reform-minded White House carries on.
A rainy, windswept Monday afternoon found Mr. Obama shooting hoops at the Oak Bluffs School with longtime Chicago friend and former Illinois public health director Eric Whitaker along with UBS chief Robert Wolf and his two sons.
Last night the Obamas dined out at the Sweet Life Cafe in Oak Bluffs, marking their second visit in two years to the contemporary French American restaurant tucked off Circuit avenue and owned by Susan and Pierre Guerin. Their dining companions were Eric and Cheryl Whitaker and Valerie Jarrett. Last summer the Sweet Life was the only place where the Obamas had dinner out.
It appeared that three things were on the Presidents mind before the weather turned rainy: books, beach and golf.
After the book-buying expedition Mr. Obama played his first round of golf at the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown with Eric Whitaker, White House trip director Marvin Nicholson and House majority whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina.
On Saturday, a majestic, cloudless day, the Obamas picnicked at a private beach at Oyster Pond, deep in the south shore reaches of Edgartown.
Sunday dawned damp and drizzly and Mr. Obama again ventured out for golf early in the day at the Scottish links-style Vineyard Golf Club. His partners were Mr. Whitaker and Mr. Nicholson, as well as regular Vineyard vacationer Bill Lewis, with whom he golfed last year.
One White House staffer noted the Presidents uncanny knack for getting in 18 holes before bad weather hits
To most Vineyarders the only visible presence of the President has been the occasional convoy of Secret Service sport utility vehicles speeding down the Edgartown-West Tisbury Road to the golf course.
Hes a big fan of the ice cream on this Island, said Mr. Burton
Look at this guy, said Mr. Burton. Do you think hes got down time?
TY maggief for the ping! I was having withdrawal not seeing any vacation photos!
Moochelle: Black makes one look smaller and white has the opposite effect. You are a little confused, it appears!
President Obama swapped the golf spikes for sneakers yesterday.
With a howling late summer storm dampening any chances of outdoor activities, the president, an avowed basketball enthusiast, joined some friends and colleagues, including Chicago pal Eric Whitaker and banker Robert Wolf of UBS, for a private game of hoops at Oak Bluffs Elementary School, said Bill Bruton, deputy press secretary.
The Obamas spent most of the morning at Blue Heron Farm, where the president has been watching movies with his family and playing poker with Whitaker over the past few days, Bruton said. Michelle Obama and daughters Malia, 12, and Sasha, 9, had been able to get out a bit despite the weather, Bruton said without providing details.
The Obamas are scheduled to leave Sunday. That morning, the president will fly to New Orleans to mark the fifth anniversary of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
LOL
Good one!
LOL...good one. U guys so funny.
“The president has told friends that to truly relax he prefers golfing with young aides...But he departed from that pattern Monday when he invited a top campaign contributor, Robert Wolf, president of UBS Investment Bank, to join him for 18 holes. Call it donor maintenance.”
Wolf, however, is hardlyas the Times suggested just another donor. For one thing, he is a leading figure in an industry that almost brought down the entire financial systemand then was the recipient of astonishing government largesse. UBS, along with other banks, benefited directly from the backdoor bailout of the insurance giant AIG.
But UBS stands alone in one rather formidable respectit was the defendant in the largest offshore tax evasion case in U.S. history, accused of helping wealthy Americans hide their income in secret offshore accounts. To settle a massive investigation, UBS forked over $780 million to the US treasury. This settlement came shortly before Wolf rounded out Obamas golfing party. Given this rather problematical situation, why then would the President choose UBSs Wolf of all people for this honor?
Uh oh...rain and wind? Looks like Hussein will need another vacation to make up for the lost vacation days.
This guy seems to have an awful lot of vices. We know of smoking, drinking, golfing, gambling, and ice-cream-eating.
Wonder when he'll get into strippers and hookers.
