SAN JUAN Police reunited a teenage woman with her family Monday afternoon, nearly 19 hours after she was abducted, blindfolded and dumped in a Reynosa field.
The 18-year-old woman, whose name was not disclosed by police, was walking to a friends house about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
A black van pulled up alongside her and three men hopped out, San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said. They snatched the girl, blindfolded her and took her to Reynosa.
The kidnappers began calling the womans family demanding ransom money.
The kidnappers somehow missed it that she had a cell phone, Gonzalez said. We were able to keep communicating with her.
The chief said police investigators, FBI agents and Hidalgo County sheriffs deputies negotiated with the kidnappers. Once the abductors realized their victims family would not be able to pay a ransom, they dumped her in a random field.
She had her cell phone, but police still had no idea where she was.
Customs officers and U.S. Border Patrol agents were put on alert to look for the teen and a helicopter surveyed Mexico from this side of the border, but found nothing.
U.S. authorities did not contact their Mexican counterparts because they did not know whether they were corrupted or connected to the girls captors, Gonzalez said.

Nothing to see here people...Move along, move along...
She was kidnapped in the US and taken to Mexico?
Yes, but the border is at least as safe as it ever was, according to Janet Neapolitano and Eric Holder.
Just doing the jobs that Americans don’t want to do.
THANK GOD she’s ok...i’ve seen the pictures documenting the violence between the drug cartels and the fact that she is still alive is a miracle in itself.
Ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
As someone in the main stream media would say, “allegedly” /sarcasm...
What I would really like to know is this...
I posted this story this morning, not too long ago...And it has fallen off the face of Free Republic where other stories that have been lingering on the sidebar here for a long while...
I understand some threads hang around for some time due to the volume and frequency of responses...
But this one has not even had a chance to garner much attention (in the side bar to the right of the page) unless you do a “search” for the topic...
What gives???
I figure this topic would be a very interesting subject to discuss for many here on this website...
Probably involved with a human/drug smuggling ring.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if BP Mgt. “asked” one of their agents to cross over and assist her in illegally re-entering the country.
Or, perhaps she ran into a coyote that was affiliated with her gang.
When I posted this, I classified this as “Front Page” and “Extended News”...
It no longer shows up on the sidebar...I seriously doubt that there have been that many threads started that would have pushed this off from being noticed within a couple of hours...
Why are my classifications being changed to where this story gets buried???
This has happened before, and I do not abuse the “Breaking News” nor do I hype up the title to get attention for the wrong reasons...
A moderator can FReepmail me a response...
I was expecting this topic to get a lot more than 10-11 responses...
That is a good question...But unless the kidnapping was designed to put a damper in a competing cayotes’ operation, I don’t believe she was an illegal...
Something else is going on here, and we’ll probably not ever hear about any more details on her or the situation other than what was reported...
What I wanted to point out was the fact that an illegal act was committed on our side of the border, and the girl, hbowever fortunate you want to say she was, was just simply dumped on the other side of the border, and no one is the wiser as to why...
I certainly have not heard of this being covered on any netwrok local or national, because of the reported involvement of all these agencies efforts to retrieve her...You’d think this would be all over the news, but it wasn’t...
I’m going to go check the local Brownsville, Texas and Laredo, Texas news outlets to see if it even made it up on the radar there...
This is an important story, one worthy of a lot of discussion in this forum...I am just dissapointed that it, for some reason, has been put on the back burner for some reason...It hasn’t been half a day and it is invisible to most FReepers...
Maybe the Mods will get back to me, or not...
This is the kidnapping side of cartel “business.”
Texans, esp South Texans, and most especially women, GO ARMED. A few dozen dead kidnappers will convince these thugs that kidnapping is not a good business in Texas. Nothing else will.
Per your instructions in post #2 “Nothing to see here people...Move along, move along...”
