This is a (sort of) freeper report from the Paladino "Get Out The Vote" picnic in Western New York Sunday. (Will post pictures as soon as I get them)
Fox News is reporting that Paladino's is now closing in on Lazio after starting out down over 30% deficit. (Paladino's people were telling me his internal polling has it even much closer than that, ahead in some parts of the state)
Lazio is losing support fast because of his lackluster campaign and recenty the official Niagara County GOP party switch their support away from him to Carl Paladino. From what they told me 5 more will be switching soon.
Carl gave a fantastic speach with much humor. His original campaign yard signs said "I'm mad as hell too Carl" and he told of being raised and taught by the nuns at a catholic school and how it was an 'awkward' phone call when they called to ask why he had the word 'hell' in his sign.
New Campaing slogan is "Carl Country"
One supporter has been following Andrew Cuomo around, wearing a duck suit (since he is 'ducking' Carl) and told of following him at a local fairground, and making Duck noises all day.
[Carl told us that his advisors begged him NOT to make a duck sound (large laughter) so he had the cuomo duck come up and demonstrate]
After Cuomo got annoyed he sent a union goon around to tell the duck that he would "stuff that sign down his throat" - It turns out that the HE was reallY a SHE in the duck suit- a MAJOR hot blonde who is also a black belt.
The goon ran away to tell the police to make her stop - and the officer responded "I'm sorry, but you're in Carl Country" (HUGE STANDING O)
I was lucky enough to have a chance to talk to Carl and one of his campaign staff (Freeper "The Mayor") and told them he should make a "Contract with New York" similar to Gingrich's "Contract with America"- The media would lose their minds, and thats free advertising you couldn't buy for any price.
Carl stopped dead in his tracks and said "that's a good idea- I dont want to forget that- where's Rus (the Mayor)"
The event was a huge success- wonderful people all there applauding and swapping stories and getting all over NY to get out the vote.
Fox news had Carl on this mornign to talk about ANOTHER liberal media hit piece on him- they distorted a story about using un-occupied state buildings on a voluntary basis as something similar to college campus dorm housing, and the media mis-characterized it as "Carl wants to house welfare receipients in jails"
Conservative candidate Lorigo was there to tell how the so-called 'conservative' party in new york state tried to sleaze their way into supporting Lazio without a vote.(Lazio is 'pro-choice' and 'pro-gun control' and 'pro-mosque' ?????) so he used their own convention rules to nominate himself so he could deliver a floor speech, and after his speach he garnered 42% of the floor vote right then and there (it was 92% against before it)
Lorigo pledged to throw his support to Paladino if he gets the party line nomination. That would give Carl 3 lines, GOP, Conservatve, and TEA PARTY lines.
A win over Lazio in the primary would generate so much publicity and send Andrew Cuomo into a caniption fit.
He spent almost 10 minutes talking to her and laughing and joking - after they were done we took pictures and she said "I want to vote for him too daddy"
Carl's own amazingly beautiful little daughters were there- and they were so nice playing with my daughter- This guy AND his kids are the real deal.

His pedge (part of the 'contract' is 10% across the board spending cut AND tax cut in his first year) and many more good things we love including de-certifying the public employees unions in NYState.
LOL... as if it matters in NY. It’s like two community-college B-ball teams playing for the chance to go up against Duke. Does anyone really hold out hope for that mess up there?

True, Lazio ran an underwheming campaign against Hilderbeast in 2002, and doesn't seem to have learned anything since then. I can't see him getting elected Governor even in current climate. Whoever the GOP nominates it will be still be a long-shot, but Paladino has endless money to burn and looks to be a more serious and more conservative choice.
I noticed Paladino used to be a RAT and didn't formerly join the GOP until 2005. Since then he's been a model conservative Republican, but of course the Trey Greyson haters say it doesn't matter how loyal he's been since joining the party since he used to be a RAT. Oh wait... I forgot... that "rule" only applies to Trey Greyson himself. ;-)
Sorta like the "rules" to be a good conservative (must drop out and support the highest polling conservative, can't endorse Topinka, shouldn't run statewide again if you've lost once) that are established by Bill Brady critics, which they demand Bill Brady obey in exchange for their support. But Jim Oberweis and Adam Andrejewski are exempt from the "rules", of course.
The NY GOP squandered an incredible opportunity this year. Although I have my problems with these two, had Pataki run against Gillibrand and Giuliani for Governor, we could’ve had a great chance to take back those offices. Having to go back 10 years ago to Lazio is just absurd. I mean, what has he done lately ? Was Pierre Rinfret unavailable ? Gee whiz.
Pataki and Rudy are too busy preparing to run for president to be bothered with trifles such as running for the Senate of governorship. Because, you know, Middle America is really aching for a socially liberal, economically moderate New Yorker to be our next president.
Natch, same with Lazio, who could have run against Gillibrand also. Or failing that, possibly sought to regain the 2nd CD seat he abandoned in 2000 (as a ringer for Rudy) in order to run for the Moynahan-Hillary-now Gillibrand Senate seat.
The NYS GOP is such a mess ... /sigh
