As more states consider copying Arizonas harsh anti-immigration law, at least one states GOP leaders decided against taking a stance on the measure. The California Republican party did not endorse Arizonas SB 1070 during its semiannual convention this weekend, despite a push for a vote of support by conservative activists in the state.
The party skipped over a resolution that would have stated the partys support for SB 1070 and Proposition 187, a 1994 effort to cut public benefits to undocumented immigrants.
But gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman has stated opposition to both SB 1070 and Proposition 187, and there was some concern last week that her stance would cause tension for the party. Some party activists accused Whitman last week of trying to block the vote over SB 1070 support. She planned to leave the conference before the vote was to occur.

It’s official now—the CAGOP has gone from moribund to dead. Please roll that dead elephant into Big Tent RINO Central...
Does anyone have any doubts about the CA GOP? I've had some on here call me names because I dared to tell the truth that the CA GOP was backing the Whitman-type R's.
This state is sunk!
You betcha.
To believe that the so-called "moderates" currently in control of the party apparatus would ever support a solid conservative candidate would be naive. Each time one tries, they are shut out by the party "leaders". The last chairman openly called for a "purple party." J Edgar pretty much nailed it in post #23, above:
"The California GOP stands for nothing, and should therefore be abolished!"Pure and simple.
"Its only function is to provide a vehicle for crooks to get their hands upon public money, and state power levers. JMHO"
Not sure who you are basing this on, but it's not true in my area.
I just don't see Whitman as doing or thinking as I, on any issue. Maybe if Brown is back in, our Republicans will hear enough from the citizens (as is what's happening on the national level), that they will start fighting or we can vote in those that will fight.
I don't know....I'm so frustrated!
California has no GOP. They’ve been infiltrated.
This resolution was designed to sabotage Whitman and Fiorina.
The politics of spite are dismantling what is left of the GOP in California.
.
“The GOP needs to grow a pair.”
.
Why, to get Moonbeam elected to his third term?
That is all the CRA resolution could possibly accomplish at this point.
.
Backwards. The CSA is what's left of the GOP in California.
Whitman could show some principle. Or are you saying that's impossible?
I share your frustration. After hearing your story about that dinner you attended, I am not hopeful until these bums are gone.
The thing that I find most infuriating when RINOs are in charge of the party and offices is the total lack of opposition to liberal actions initiated by those that say they are on “our side”. Anytime conservatives tried to launch a fight they were hushed and silenced by the PTB. McCain and his immigration reform; GWB and NCLB; Arnie and an endless list of actions; etc. Those speaking up are told to “quit trashing Republicans.” It’s insane. If Republicans act like liberals, they should be trashed. I don’t care what party they are in.
Apparently Meg thinks she can lose the conservative vote and make up the difference by wooing pro-illegal alien hispanics. I say “good luck with that.” How many times must they try the same stupid thing before they realize it is a losing strategy? (Hopefully not many more!)
Whitman must lose.
That is correct.
Like the GOP in, say, Philadelphia, it's there strictly for show.
We need to take back our party...even if it means not voting for Gov. as a step on the rung.
When they lose, it's our fault. When we lose, it's our fault.
As much as I hate that child molesting queer Jerry Brown i’ll vote for him before i’ll vote for Meg!!!!
She’s nothing but a stupid bank account that Pete Wilson and Mitt Romney are using to run the State!
I’ll never vote for anything or person that those 2 are behind!
There's entirely too much of that going on all over the country. It's like a metastatic cancer, really hard to find and wipe out without killing healthy tissue. We have a long row to hoe.
Cali has a GOP in the same way Illinois does. :’)
