California GOP Kills Resolution Supporting Arizona Immigration Law
The Washington Independent ^ | 8/23/10 | ELISE FOLEY

Posted on 08/23/2010 12:05:01 PM PDT by Mojave

As more states consider copying Arizona’s harsh anti-immigration law, at least one state’s GOP leaders decided against taking a stance on the measure. The California Republican party did not endorse Arizona’s SB 1070 during its semiannual convention this weekend, despite a push for a vote of support by conservative activists in the state.

The party skipped over a resolution that would have stated the party’s support for SB 1070 and Proposition 187, a 1994 effort to cut public benefits to undocumented immigrants.

But gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman has stated opposition to both SB 1070 and Proposition 187, and there was some concern last week that her stance would cause tension for the party. Some party activists accused Whitman last week of trying to block the vote over SB 1070 support. She planned to leave the conference before the vote was to occur.

The California GOP stands for nothing, and should therefore be abolished!

Pure and simple.

It’s only function is to provide a vehicle for crooks to get their hands upon public money, and state power levers. JMHO

I’ve been telling folks this, even if the Republicans win you’re going to be shocked because you’re going to see very little policy change. Sure, I know what your thinking, ya right, but you just wait, we are far, far left of the democratic party 30 years ago, JFK would shame any Republican today ...

Once a new and hopefuly stronger position is established, the battle can be engaged from strength rather than weakness.

Its all about them getting reelected, not the good of the people to whom they serve. Considering the state of the state they and the dems are obviously a disservice to the state so throw them out.

Just lead these RINOS to a high cliff on the Pacific and tell them they are racist if they don't jump.

Sigh! No hope in CA.

California will remain in trouble, unless true conservatism, ever, takes over California.

How's that work?

Conservatives are the first to run from trouble..

Fleeing to other states...

They're the first to give up the best to settle for less...

But ya know what? Those that run then hope for true conservatism to "take over" were never conservatives in the first place...

To be honest, we don't need those types here.

They are better suited to stand on the sidelines and bark.

I’m just going say that California politics is not the same as the rest of the country. I’ll leave it to the wisdom of the GOP candidates to know what they need to win in that state. Then just hope that they can somehow do enough good things to turn the economy and attitude to work toward a more centrist approach. To think that California would elect anything other then a RINO would be naive.

DUDE! Centrist to conservative Hispanic registered voters in California don't like illegal aliens either!

Pandering to illegal aliens does NOT win elections!

Buy a clue!

Obviously the California GOP is not conservative. I am sure John McCain, the Bush Family, Lindsey Graham, and other Liberal RINOs are happy with this.....real conservatives are not

Obviously the California GOP is not conservative.

It sounds like the party "leadership" wouldn't allow the party members to vote on the resolutions.

I’ll leave it to the wisdom of the GOP candidates to know what they need to win in that state.

That guarantees continued Democrat domination of the Assembly, the Senate and the state constitutional offices.
