CLEVELAND, Ohio -- More than $400 million in property values was wiped from Cuyahoga County's tax rolls without a public hearing in front of boards of revision in a secretive process that may be illegal and does not happen in the state's other urban counties, The Plain Dealer has found.
A newspaper investigation of county records shows that of the 78,000 home and business owners who have formally challenged their tax assessments since March 2007, 17,500 -- including the county prosecutor and four members of the boards -- had their values lowered by one, two or three members of a board without a hearing.
An additional 8,400 taxpayers had their claims rejected without being given a chance to argue their cases.

I detest Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
yup..another one..but many property values are too high and some areas are still upping values to drain more taxes..they usually offer some sort of small cut and if unless you want to show up at the board and ask for more. for elderly and those who lack transportation its hard. property owners have been paying the lions share for a long time. there must be a better way.. money grupping communities are strangleing the life out of citizens to pay for pork just like DC..and when they have to cut the budget its alwayw where it hurts taxpayers and never removes pork.
“The county has a backlog of thousands of taxpayer appeals, forcing some people to wait a year or more to get decisions.”
Well, if you are paying lots of people for 8 hours, and only getting six...yea... you are going to have a back log.
I just now printed this article and handed it to one of our attorneys who used to be a County Prosecutor. Let’s see what he has to say.
Cuyahoga County is a wholly-owned subsidiary of one political party. Guess which?
To be fari, it may have been simple expedience.
The property values are dropping like a rock here.
Detest Cuyahoga County-—that makes Two of us! Many moons ago, We lived in Cleveland for two years and I hated it then. Once we got out of there, I have never gone back! In fact, there’s not enough money on earth that would ever cause me to move back there, not even to visit!!!
Why does anyone go into politics except to benefit himself and his friends?
