It’s a first for first ladies: Michelle Obama and Laura Bush will appear together next month on the 9th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks in Shanksville, Pa., where United flight 93 went down after the crew and passengers fought back against terrorists.
Administration officials said the event will build on Michelle Obama's focus on the heroes of Sept. 11 — celebrating their heroism, honoring their memories and supporting their families.

TR wanted a progressive income tax, which was not enacted in his term, but eventually evolved into the monster that it is today. It is not a good argument to vilify a person who did not foresee how a small program could grow into something so evil, but in some part, that is what Beck does to TR. I’m not sure exactly how TR would have written the 16th amendment. We can hope it would have been written more carefully than the Wilson version. However, prior congresses had passed income tax bills (without a Constitutional amendment), so maybe the IRS monster would have been hard to restrain in any case.
I get in trouble with other good faith conservatives when I say that Reagan signing the 1986 amnesty bill was a mistake (but he was still a great POTUS), and I still think I am right about that. But how could RR have known how he and the nation would be swindled by Kennedy and Co.?

My surmise is the philosophical distinctions between Ms. Bush and Ms. Obama, is, like the distinction between her busband and Obama, more of degree than of substance.
Remember, the legacy of Ronald Reagan was ANOTHER Reupublican in the White House.

I believe Laura Bush has a connection with the families of 9/11 and is probably a comfort to them. Don’t know what they will think of MO??? Wondering how BO could run his Blame Bush ad for the November elections but have his wife together with Mrs. Bush. Seems like it contradicts his message, “The Evil Bushes”.
A few weeks ago, D1 posted a great description of that 1986 bill. It was hardly just an amnesty bill. Furthermore, we were talking about maybe 2 million illegals, NOT 22 million+ like today. I was against it because almost all of the illegals were in California (at that time), and I worried that Mexico would flood my state. 5 million more did, and I left in 06. Now California is almost destroyed.

RE TR and income tax: Without some kind of income tax, I don't see how we could have survived major 20th century wars. So I think TR was right about the basic need for one, although I think most of us agree that today a huge part of it is wasted. But then, the government today is happy to spend borrowed money recklessly.
I believe the headline is misleading. This was not “jointly planned.” It was originally announced earlier this month that Laura Bush would appear at the Pennsylvania Flight 93 memorial. It was only today* that m. antoinette’s name was added. Mrs. Bush was to be THE keynote speaker. Now, at the last minute, the First Heifer gets in on the act. This is sickening.

EXCUSE ME!!! Mrs. Bush was First Lady at the time of the 9/11/01 attacks. It is perfectly appropriate that she was invited to keynote the memorial.

That's what McCain says about every "comprehensive immigration" bill. The sad history of such bills is that "our government" promises enforcement and then breaks that promise.
I am NOT bashing Reagan. As I said, If I had been in his shoes, I might have signed the bill.
PLEASE do a little research before posting. Laura Bush was invited by the people in Pennsylvania to be their keynote speaker. It was announced earlier this month. Only today did Big Ol' Butt insert herself into the ceremony. It only took me a few minutes on Google to learn this.
