United and Continental airlines aren't yet officially hitched, but some are already grumbling about the monogram they've selected for their china.
The backlash is a reaction to one of the first compromises reached by the carriers' CEOs during their April courtship: an agreement to stamp Continental's stylized globe logo and blue-and-gold color scheme on all jets operated by the new United, which will be one of the world's largest carriers.
United's name and its Chicago headquarters will survive the tie-up, but not the "tulip," the giant Saul Bass-designed "U" that has graced United's jets for nearly 40 years.

I preferred the color schemes of TWA and Pan Am. Then again, they had more important issues.

Would it kill them to add a picture to the article??? No kidding. I can't believe how many visually-based stories I have seen on the web that don't bother with a pic.

Continental better give more to United than just a logo, or else the new airline will be junk.

being a former uaHell employee, I hope this fails. I refuse to do business with them after the way they treat employee's and coddle their managers. The are the epitome of “us against them’ mentality. I am very anti-union because of them mainly because when I wanted the union to back me up they turned their backs (as expected) and management had a field day. I ended up victorious in a law suit but then got sued by the ‘self insured’ UAL corp and ended up owing more than the settlement.

Gee, the America West and US Airways merger went well. The unions were so cooperative with one another. What could go wrong here? /sarc

Yeah, like the cattle are worried about whether the shoot sides are painted light dirt or dark dirt.
Pretty soon there’s going to be one generic airline and the generic logo isn’t really going to matter that much to anyone, because the service will be horrible, prices ridiculous, and if you and your luggage arrive anywhere near where you are going any time close to the same day you left, you’re going to get down on your knees after you deplane and thank the gods of air travel you made it in one piece. (You’ll probably also swear you’ll never fly again, but you will.)

So what’s US Airways like now? I just had to book an international trip with them — everybody else had wretched flight/connection times and mostly much higher prices.
