Reporting from New York There's no doubt in Christian Vazquez's mind why he was beaten up as he headed home from work late one night, and it wasn't for the $10 the attackers stole from him.
"They were after me because I was a Mexican," the 18-year-old said, his left eye still swollen shut from the assault July 31 while he was walking through Staten Island's Port Richmond neighborhood. As his attackers punched him, they yelled, "Go home!" and anti-Mexican slurs, according to the police report, which had a familiar ring.
That's because Vazquez was the 10th Mexican victim of a suspected hate crime in the neighborhood since April. "Why this is happening? If you ask 10 different people, you might get 10 different answers," said Ed Josey, president of the Staten Island branch of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, during a march Aug. 6 led by religious and civic leaders to condemn the violence.

It is interesting that the article mentions the victims as "Mexicans" and not as "Mexican-Americans" or "Latinos." |
This is getting no play in the NY media, because the perps
are black!
Funny, that.
Funny, that.
Could be false flag ops going on to escalate things. They also could be legitimate racists too at the same time.
Isn’t SI a LONG way from Greater LA?
Staten Island, which in many ways is really part of New Jewrsey has a big population of Silcian descent — not friendly to any kind of outsiders.
The media is tied in pretzels on who to support in this fight. Blacks in LA in the drug trade in Compton have said the Mexican and Latin Americans are out to kill all blacks and drive them out of the area via ethnic cleansing.
I read a report that there were 20 million illegal Mexicans in the U.S. , and 500,000 illegals made up of every other nationality.
NYC has a lot of different Latin American groups (Dominicans, Venezuelans, Colombians, Mexicans, etc.) and they tend to live in separate enclaves.
I guess the boyz in the hood are jealous because even though these guys arrive here speaking no English, they get ahead because they actually show up for work every day, are willing to do whatever the boss tells them to do, and aren’t going to have an attack of “black rage” where they take out the boss and several “racist” fellow employees.
I know who I’d hire. Of course, the boyz aren’t looking for legitimate work anyway.
Interesting that the L.A. Times is writing this. To say, See, it happens everywhere? Or to evoke pity for the Mexican illegals that are doing the same to our citizens here in the City of the Angels?
Why is it that WE immediately knew who the perps were? How come the media deliberately chose to omit that fact?
- because they want people to think that a bunch of White guys did it.
I suspected as such but you just locked it in. If a bunch of white guys attacked, well, ANYBODY, the headline would have been “Four honkey whitey the blue-eyed devil cracker redneck WASPS beat up a person of color.”
It’s also interesting that the LAT is doing a story about Staten Island, as if they don’t have enough news out there.
“They were after me because I was a Mexican,”
I’d take the hint
Vargas is 100-150 pounds over her weight limit as a cop. She's certainly the one I'd call if I was being attacked. Gee. Could it be affirmative action at work?
Looks like Officer Vargas is quite familiar with Mr. Torres’ food market...
” Vargas is 100-150 pounds over her weight limit as a cop. She’s certainly the one I’d call if I was being attacked “
it is summer, maybe he needed the shade
Of course minorities never target whites. Otherwise it would be reported on an hourly basis in the LAT and AP.
a bunch of bored kids lashing out, aka “disaffected yuts”..
