Dr June Talvitie-Siple thought her comments would only be seen by her friends.
Instead, the whole town of Cohasset in Massachusetts is in uproar and Dr Talvatie-Siple has now left her job at the local high school.
In her Facebook comments, she wrote that the swanky waterfront town was "arrogant" and "snobby".
She went on to say: "I'm so not looking forward to another year at Cohasset schools.
"Now I remember why I stopped teaching! Kids... they are all germ bags."
But the maths and science teacher has come out fighting.
She said: "I don't regret the comments I made because I thought I made them in confidence."
"I'm human. I know a lot about technology but I still made a mistake. Not everybody is arrogant and the kids are great, they're not germ bags. It is a joke."

Poor guy.
Dude should man up. Bleep happens.
You obviously have not worked with kids in the last years. I am teaching at college level, and the level has sunk. Students do not know anything. Second year students will tell they didn’t learn x when I taught them x myself. If you give them bad grades, they complain to the administrations which anyway says that I cannot fail more than 10% of the class. And all the students behave as if they were little Einstein.
I understand her very well.
She can always run for office on the Demo ticket or better yet, become a “journalist”.
When the Muslims take over, this babe will be wearing a burka......whew.....
The interwebs is a tricksy place.
If she changes her attitude, life would be more pleasant.
As the husband of a retired teacher, so do I.
But as somebody who posts online, I also understand the importance of prudence when posting something online. Because if she can't control herself on Facebook, what makes me think she can control herself in a classroom?
That’s, believe it or not, an (UGH!!!!) Dudette.
We know. It was another way of saying "GUILTY!" ;)
Is Facebook necessary for a successful teaching career?
She had just received a $4,000 raise, boosting her salary to about $92,000
A 4k raise? Not bad in this Obama Economy, if you can keep your mouth shut.
Or is this person, ah, in between genders?
Someone with a PhD working at a high school? What am I missing here? =.=
“arrogant” and “snobby”
Yep that pretty much sums up Mass.
Just last night, I sent a private message to a young co-worker on Facebook reminding her that it isn't wise to complain about the boss and managers on FB.
I actually had posts I'd made on FR brought out during a deposition.
She sounds like a first class idiot to me. And yes, I work with kids--7th and 8th grade.
