Longtime Maryland Democratic Senator Barbara Mikulski continues to hold a double-digit lead over the best-known of her 11 Republican challengers.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Maryland Voters finds that Mikulski earns 55% of the vote, while Eric Wargotz, a doctor and county commissioner, gets 39% support. Three percent (3%) like some other candidate, and another three percent (3%) are undecided.
Last month, Mikulski posted a 58% to 33% lead over Wargotz. In February, Mikulski earned 54% support when matched against an unnamed generic Republican candidate who won 36% of the vote.
Both parties will pick their Senate nominees in September 14 primaries. Mikulski, a member of the Senate since 1987, faces no serious opposition within her own party.

Barbara Mikilski remains the definite favorite, but this is far less than the margins she’s accustomed to. Eric Wargotz is waging a brave and spirited effort and Maryland Freepers, TEA Party activists, and other conservative grass roots would be well advised to watch this race far more closely.

Couldn't agree more. The citizens of Maryland need to be lobotomized, at least the ones who vote for Mikulski. That woman is one of the most disgusting women in the Senate, heck in the entire Country. What's wrong with you people in Maryland? Can't you get a decent candidate? But I live in CA so I guess this is the pot calling the kettle black. I have Feinstein and Boxer as Senators. But I never voted for either one.

Mikulski is slipping in the polls. We shouldn’t take a defeatist attitude.

That's low considering she has Baltimore and D.C. burbs.

My thoughts exactly. She can be beaten — think Massachusetts. If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere.
To: Clintonfatigued
About as close as it will get get.
Maryland has too many people who depend on big gooberment for their livelihood.

That woman is revolting. She is hands down ugliest person in the Senate trailed closely behind Al Franken. They kinda look alike.

If there are any Maryland Freepers out there, can you give me a profile of the type of person who votes for Mikulski? I'd be very curious about the type of person who could vote for her. Is Maryland nothing but government workers and welfare recipients?

Agreed. These numbers show that she is vulnerable. In past massive landslide elections (that this one has potential for), in the last few weeks voters under economic duress just throw up their hands and vote for new blood, regardless of the party or the past. She is particularly vulnerable because she can’t count on a personal likability as a backstop, being such a warted toad.
Of all the interesting elections to watch in November, this one bears watching if the GOPer doesn’t mess it up in the next 60 days.
