I’m looking at plans for a chicken coop myself.
If you have a sizable grassy area that is reasonably level a chicken tractor (coop that can be moved around easily) makes more sense. I’m working on one now. Chickens eat a lot of bugs and grass (Guineas, too). The benefit of a chicken tractor is mobile bug control plus free fertilizer. Check out www.backyardchickens.com. Tons of pictures and plans for coops and chicken tractors, as well as lots of good info on raising birds, breeds, combating diseases, links to suppliers, etc.
It’s not too difficult to build one. I did last year and now have a nice flock of New Hampshire Reds.
My biggest problem has been foxes and raccoons. I do let mine free range sometimes, but you have to keep your eyes open for predators.
