SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Supreme Court says furloughs of state workers can resume while it reviews whether governors have the authority to mandate unpaid days off.

Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear says furloughs for about 150,000 state workers will begin Friday.

If anyone wants to see a prime example of a state constitution and legal system as a suicide pact, look at California. Their legislature and judges have found a million reasons why spending has to increase and can’t be cut. I’m sure this will be found “unconstitutional” or in violation of worker rights too.
How will anyone be able to tell if they’re actually working or not working? Is there a difference?
Gee, it looks as if Ka-lee-four-nee-uh by itself will increase the “unexpected” first time jobless filings next week by 30%.
I live in the Sacto area and what I like about furlough days is there is hardly any traffic on the roads. Other than that, its pretty much imperceptible to me that they’re not on the job.
Dead on target the democrat controled legislature has ruled for years and it never gets better yet the sheep still vote for them,I guess they will have to get to the point when they can’t put a down payment on a hot lunce before they change.
Much better than Ugyr Wednesdays.
Unless you are unfortunate enough to need to go to the DMV...it's my understanding that they've now sh*tcanned the appointment system, which worked surprisingly well.
True. The government will do everything they can to make voters uncomfortable in an effort to help us “see it their way.” But the upside of having the government closed down is just too great for me to worry about mild irritations like them closing the library at my kids’ school, ending the DMV appointment system, or threatening to let the grass die at our local park.
