Introduced by a Democratic state representative at a gathering of hundreds of senior citizens at a condo complex in heavily Democratic Broward County on Wednesday, Florida governor and U.S. Senate candidate Charlie Crist thanked God that he was no longer a Republican.
"You know, I used to be a Republican," Crist told the adoring crowd after an introduction by Democratic state Rep. Ari Porth . When a women in the audience yelled out, "Thank God!" Crist immediately said, "Yeah, thank God. Right - used to be!"
The statement came the same day Washington Examiner columnist Timothy P. Carney revealed that former senator and Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole contributed $1,000 to Crist's Senate campaign against GOP nominee Marco Rubio. Carney provided the Federal Election Commission record documenting Dole's cash donation.
During Bill Clinton's first term as president, Dole as Senate minority leader was instrumental in stopping HillaryCare from becoming law. But after retiring from the Senate, the Kansan became a highly-paid Washington lobbyist with the law firm of Alston & Bird, which counts the National Association for Home Care and Hospice as a client.
Last fall, Dole backed the Democrats' big government healthcare reform legislative efforts, which became law in the spring.
Addressing the seniors, Gov. Crist lived up to a big-spender reputation that was buttressed by his eager acceptance of President Obama's stimulus money last year by promising the status quo on the fiscally-troubled Social Security system. Crist wowed the crowd by saying, "I'm the only candidate in the race who says he will protect Social Security forever."

Remember last week when he announces he will caucus with whoever is in power in the Senate?
He proved he has no scruples or principles.
We all thank God;)
He is an idiot and a fool. Whats the latest polls? Rubio better be running on the poor economy that Crist has produced.
Useful idiot to the rats
Well that is going to make some of his REPUBLICAN supporters feel real good...
He just aligned himself 100% with the democraps
I think he is going to regret those words.
those seniors will say sure sure sure and still vote for the democrat.
*** Crist is a poster child for what is wrong with most politicians: he is only interested with advancing himself. It is not about the people he serves. they are only a useful end to his own wishes. ***
And I say that covers 99% of politicians.
Revolution.
Running about even, with the Democrats no where to be seen deep in third. I think that's good news for Rubio, but we'll see.
“Well that is going to make some of his REPUBLICAN supporters feel real good...”
His supporters include Dole who the article says gave him $1000. Yes, Bob Dole, who, like idiot McCain in 2008 ran for President for the GOP as a “moderate”.
I fervently wish for Gov Christie on the ballot in 2012.
Thank God indeed that this guy quit the GOP too. May the wisdom of God shine upon all other RINOs, that they may quit the party too, and find suitable homes elsewhere.
A common nightwalker.
I’ll bet he’s really thankful for the hundreds of thousands of bucks he bilked GOP donors out of. Bet they are salted away in the Caymans.
Dufus!
“Crist is a poster child for what is wrong with most politicians: he is only interested with advancing himself.”
Agree he’s a poster child. But there is a dishonest sort of principle amongst the RINOS. They are secret statists. He is interested in advancing the interests of government and those who feed at the trough. I don’t think it’s all self interest.
It’s just that the cause of statism requires some agents amongst the opposition to give the honest statists (democrats) cover.
Amen, Bro.
His self-serving party switching reminds me of one Arlen Spector.
We've known this for years..........
Queer.
Don't the screen door hit you in the patootie on the way out!!
