Introduced by a Democratic state representative at a gathering of hundreds of senior citizens at a condo complex in heavily Democratic Broward County on Wednesday, Florida governor and U.S. Senate candidate Charlie Crist thanked God that he was no longer a Republican.
"You know, I used to be a Republican," Crist told the adoring crowd after an introduction by Democratic state Rep. Ari Porth . When a women in the audience yelled out, "Thank God!" Crist immediately said, "Yeah, thank God. Right - used to be!"
The statement came the same day Washington Examiner columnist Timothy P. Carney revealed that former senator and Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole contributed $1,000 to Crist's Senate campaign against GOP nominee Marco Rubio. Carney provided the Federal Election Commission record documenting Dole's cash donation.
During Bill Clinton's first term as president, Dole as Senate minority leader was instrumental in stopping HillaryCare from becoming law. But after retiring from the Senate, the Kansan became a highly-paid Washington lobbyist with the law firm of Alston & Bird, which counts the National Association for Home Care and Hospice as a client.
Last fall, Dole backed the Democrats' big government healthcare reform legislative efforts, which became law in the spring.
Addressing the seniors, Gov. Crist lived up to a big-spender reputation that was buttressed by his eager acceptance of President Obama's stimulus money last year by promising the status quo on the fiscally-troubled Social Security system. Crist wowed the crowd by saying, "I'm the only candidate in the race who says he will protect Social Security forever."

I and other conservatives have blasted the Republican Party over the last few yrs for their conduct ...BUT the conservatives in Florida regained control of their party and have kicked ass! A good example for other states to follow. They sent that scum bag POS Cornyn packing and ran Steele out of the state...both good pals of Crist.
The RNC dumped a ton of money on Crist and did all they could to railroad Rubio. To date they have not apologized.
Amen to that.
Rubio will hopefully run ads "touting" Crist's non-accomplishments and the dismal state of Florida's job market, housing market, etc.
So he’ll be returning the GOP donor money then?
Any bets on when Charlie outs himself to win over the LGBT voters?
Sounds like he was surrounded by Rats or idiots, but I repeat myself.
> Crist told the adoring crowd after an introduction by Democratic state Rep. Ari Porth .
Who writes this garbage?
It reads like it was written by Goebbels in the ministry of propaganda
What god is he really thanking? Any illusion of a moral compass has been ripped away. And, he didn’t give people their money back when he left the GOP (thank God). He’s not only full of it but he’s a greedy sob too.
Bob Dole, the worst Republican candidate of all time, reminds us why he's a loser.
Rubio out debates Crist every single time. Crist is pandering to the senior voters who think he’s a “nice boy”. That won’t save the republic and they’re wrong. He’s nuthin’ but a nice sleazebag.
The money he can’t part with? I heard they were suing him.
The adoring crowd of people on way too many meds. Florida’s prescription OD rate is huge. They’re so medicated that they’ll vote for this clown.
Crist is a “Newt”.
I think McCain made that a toss-up.
Thank goodness he outed himself as a Democrat. He just sealed his own demise. See ya, knucklehead.
Crist is a thief.
If someone is a Democrat, okay, fine.
If someone is a Democrat posing as a Republican, then that's entirely different. It's cynical deception, and a clandestine double-cross.
.
Crist is a fungus, not to be trusted by anyone, from any party.
.
Should I know that name? I live in New Jersey!!!
