Yep, the John Ford films were outstanding, as was The Searchers.
I’ve always had a soft spot for The Shootist because it always seemed to me it was Wayne’s way of saying goodbye to his fans, and was such a deeply personal performance. I also like how he brought in some guys from the old days for one last hurrah - Richard Boone, John Carradine, etc.
Yep. Loved ‘The Shootist’, and “The Searcher” was a departure for me...he definitely wasn’t going for a standard John Wayne part there.
I think his character in “The Searchers” was probably some of his best acting, if not the best.
I tend to like the Ford films for the scenery as they were shot in my favorite place on earth and it always makes me feel good to see the scenery and with The Duke it’s a twofer.
